...photos along the ride.

As a whole, the masonry bridges of France are different than the ones you’ll see in the U.K. or elsewhere.  I believe some date from Roman times, but you can’t be sure how much maintenance or outright replacement was done over the years (not to mention rebuilding after damage from many wars).  I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a steel-truss bridge of the sort that you’ll see in rural areas of the U.S.

No; it's unlikely that I'll ever ride close enough to Paris to take a photo of those more famous bridges across the River Seine.

Thanks Daniel,  Those new super span sleek models leave me cold. I do appreciate the engineering behind them but they lack style IMHO. Give me a good old viaduct made of masonry , any day.

Some of those may have originally been acqueducts.
In the early 60's the 'bridge' over the soccer pitch (Chaumont), was still moving water,  R3~

Thanks!
Having many fond memories of travelling in France, I looked through with an ever widening grin.

You are right.  I'm using the word "bridge" in a loose way.  France has some amazing viaducts.  And, at one time, they must have been the world's leader in barge traffic over waterways.

Was it your ancestor who was chief engineer on the Brooklyn Bridge ?.....(Seriously, this time)

No; the Tarn is such a beautiful river that it's better to be "way down there" than flying across.  but, the next time I'm down there, I'll certainly stop to get a photograph.  It's a pretty amazing thing.
