02 California intake rubbers

SO Im going to replace the intake rubbers this winter, and clean the TB's at that time. Im working on removing the TB's and just wondering if its fine to just remove one TB at a time from that cross brace that hold the cables, and the two TB's together? Seems if I unscrew them from that brace, it will be less effort to work them out of the rubber boots.


Also think I found some of my lean surge... the little T that connects the intake vac line to the charcoal canister had a crack in it...  Canister is going bye bye..  :)

I took my TBs off recently. After loosening all the clamps between the air box and the heads, I wiggled the whole assembly. It came apart easily where the front rubbers attached to the TBs. I think if I had only loosened those clamps, it would have separated just as easily. I think you should try to avoid detaching the TBs from the cross brace. Any variation in that setup will affect your TB balance.

Makes sense.  I wasnt sure, so figured I would ask.

Looks like the airbox needs to be loosened and slid back some. Room on the right side, but the left is too tight to slide them out. I only see one bolt holding the airbox in. is that correct?

When I did the rubbers on my '04, I took off one TB at a time unbolting them from the rails and removing the linkages. Seemed easier to me than trying to get both into the intake rubbers.

If your air box is like mine, the plastic tubes to the TB's slide back into the air box. A little lube like WD40 spayed where the plastic tube enters the rubber on the air box will make them slide easier.

OK, I got them off...  What I thought was a airbox bolt was where the breather attached..  But I saw it hung from the tank bracket, so I unbolted that, and the box slid back enough that I could work the boots off. One side boot was pretty hard and stiff. other was not too bad, but I will replace bolth. The little cracks that started were not through yet, so I beat the clock.
