WTB float bowls for PHF36

The float bowls are so gummed after bing parked 35 years full of fuel from 1982. I think some o-rings melted into the fuel and have filled the passage in bottom of the bowl, and I can't get them clear. 8 hours in chem dip, tried bending instruments to poke through, nothing working. Nastiest carbs I've ever dealt with.

Would rather add them to the list of new carb parts but they seem unavailable. Anyone got a couple in decent shape they'd sell me?

Always a great idea to run the carbs empty when you are doing some storage - better, drain them clear.

I think that is a "later style", fits PHM and other carbs, mine being early style PHF.

I didn't know that, but from the description the PHF and PHM take the same float bowl. FYI - the PHF carbs are 30 - 36mm, PHM are the larger size 38-41mm.

The early carbs used a smaller float bowl nut that tended to strip, so at some point was increased in diameter. That appears to be the only difference - the size of the opening for the retaining bolt.

There's gotta be a way to clean out that gunk - but I know what you mean. I've got a gas tank that's half full with the same shit - It looks like it got filled with hot tar. I may have to have a radiator shop clean it out - the paint is shot, so no worries there. So that's a possibility for you - see if a radiator shop will clean them up for you. If you decide not to mess with them, I'd be interested in getting them as an experiment.

The bowl on my left carb was quite clean, but my right carb has some of the same tarry crud. but it is not as hardened.  I am working to clean my right bowl also.

       Something I have used over the years on gunked up carbs is I have an old crock pot that I use 2 parts Pine Sol to one part water and cook on low for a day or two depending on the crud. It will darken the metal on some carbs so check regularly. Torch tip cleaners work well on the tiny passages too. My$.02
