(NGC)-Willie Nelson at the CMA awards.
« on: November 14, 2019, 07:44:34 AM »
Willie Nelson and Kasey Musgraves performed together last night at the CMA awards. Was tough to watch Willie as he was having a tough time. Wasn't sure he was going to make it through the performance. Dang, old age catches everyone eventually that don't die young. Wishing him the best.

Living life is a lot like carving a stone.  When things look pretty good, it's easy to believe it'll look even better if you hit it one or two more times.  Doesn't always work that way and there's no going back.  It's hard to simply stop (which is different than quitting) while you're ahead.  At some point, you do stop- either before or after its too late.

Hard to imagine living a large life in front of the whole world, instead of being anonymous and obscure.  But I understand hitting a stone at least one too many times very well...

God Bless Willie Nelson!

I couldn't bear to watch the CMA's and I like Country Music but not by today's definition.

This song pretty much says it all;

And by the way, Bob Wills is still the KING!!

I agree.  New Country is a waste-IMO.  That said, the bride had it on and I saw Willie-  Looked like he was ready to keel over halfway thru the song.  I felt bad for him.

Though his body falters, his music is a lasting legacy. I've never seen him live, but I've enjoyed his songwriting and recorded performances a great deal. In my mind, he can never pass away...

Just finished watching his performance. Looks like he was having a tough time catching his breath. Not much of his trademark voice is left.I saw BB King perform at a venue in  Tucson, towards the end of his career, and he was about the same way as Willie. I am glad I got to see him picking on "Lucille" one last time.

Saw Willie and Lucus a few years back in a 2,000 seat or so venue in Wichita. Was still doing very well then. Very good show. At the end of the show he jumped off the front of the stage and mingled with the audience.

The Ken Burns documentary on Country Music was recently on PBS channels. If you are a fan of older Country Music it is well worth the many hours it takes to watch it.
Cash, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline. They are all in there.

I've seen Willie Nelson more times than I can't even count. The most memorable was the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs Ar. New years eve, maybe..........82? 83??? very small venue with little round tables. Each table had a bud vase on it and the "bud" was NOT a rose  with a pack of zig zags on each table. Willie was a dishwasher at Aunt Martha's pancake house in Springfield, Mo. when he was appearing at the Ozark Country Jubilee in the late 50's early 60's. I'll miss The Red Headed Stranger when he's gone. Him and Possum, Mighty Merle, Don Williams, Doc Watson and Conway. No one will ever come close to what those guys did.

Ive seen Willie a handful of times and usually he seems real bad at first but then catches a groove and puts on a great show. That said, father time eventually catches up. Willie and Waylon are my all time favorites. If you like these two try so,e Dale Watson. He is the real deal

I saw Willie in 89 over in Schereville, In. Sat down front, his sister was playing piano. He was into throwing his hat, real good show w/Jonnie Cougar.

Amen to that! The funny thing about Willie is that he seemed to go on forever so it came as a surprise to his fans when his health started to falter. Anyhow , God Bless Willie and all the great music he has given us

Last time I saw Willie was with Waylon at Arrowhead Stadium at the 1977 4th of July Picnic in KC, MO.
The crowd of 35,000 was a little less respectable than at the CMT awards.
