Lemans 1 fork oil capacity?
« on: December 24, 2019, 05:43:55 PM »
Rebuilding my forks that have fac dampers and wirth springs. I believe 70ml (I have belray 10w) of fork oil go into the damper, what amount go into the fork for lubrications?  I read 90ml, 120ml. Just wondering what the general consensus is
Thx
Allen

I'll bite.  From 850T book says 60, then LM2 says 80, then 1000SP says 90, it's all over for same thing.
My numbers may not match (FOR the nitpickers) I may be wrong (FOR the nitpickers)
BUT at least I answered.
I usually put in 70.

forgot I had manuals for my lemans 1 and g5. lemans states 120ml while g5 states 90ml.  if I understand correctly, this is for lubrication only.  why the lemans asks for more, I don't know.  also read 70ml for the fac dampers.

so I guess thats what im going to use unless someone here has a better explanation

Supposedly the Lemans I had thinner fork tubes for lightness. I have never seen this, but it wouldn't surprise me if they could hold a bit more oil because of this. Since the oil is for lube and darn little else. I'd run 50cc or maybe 60cc, and be done with it.

After years of trying to pour the oil into the gap between the damper cartridge and the for tube (with burping of oil back out), I started assembling the damper/spring assembly into the fork lower, pouring the oil in (the now much larger gap without the fork tube in the way), and then insertng the lower/spring/damper assy up into the fork tube. Much easier.

As I remember, if you put in 120 as shown in the factory manual, the forks will lockup. Use 60.

just curious by what you mean as "lock up"  ill try the 60ml as suggested but wonder why it states 120ml in the manual
