Sport 1100 bodywork on Centauro

I took the Centauro out yesterday and was reminded that the riding position isn’t very comfortable for me.  The Sport 1100 position feels better. 

As it happens, I have a complete set of Sport 1100 bodywork, and lots of time since I’m stuck at home.  I’m tempted to mount the Sport 1100 stuff on the Centauro.  Will it bolt up?

I highly doubt it. I had to switch fairing subframe when I switched to the euro headlight. Do you have the subframes?

I do indeed.  I also have a repairable Daytona fairing.  I’ve never been able to find a Daytona tail section, though.

Iirc, if you spend some time searching on here, I think over the winter or within the last year, someone posted a for sale link from a dealer for a low mileage Centauro redone in V11 bodywork.

Looked nice!

Inner rear fender is different too. I have one of those if you need/want it.

I know someone out of New Zealand who bought an original California owned Centauro from a Dr. John Ciccone, who apparently did modify his then owned Centauro to build what he called a "992 Sport". I was looking in buying me a Centauro so that I could build myself am version of a Daytona RS, but I have way too many projects already going on, plus I estimated that it would cost me around $10k to build that bike, which I can't justify spending on that project. But, you my friend already have a Centauro and 1100 Sport parts, so you are way ahead of the game!

Yup, and I think that this is what the thread starter was kinda asking if it was possible to do, or at least if 1100 Sport components could be mounted onto a Centauro, which i the same that I thought about doing too. The only bigger issue I would foresee could be the installation of the 1100 Sport front fairing. The installation of the fairing is probably not that big of a deal, if you have time, tools, and equipment to get the job done. However, using the Centauro's instrument cluster could be a bear.... It may be too large for the 1100 Sport's inner fairing opening.

Thanks for all the info.  I had the Sport 1100 out a few days ago, and the difference between the motors in the carbureted Sport and the injected Centauro is pretty big.  It feels like the Centauro flywheel is half the weight of the Sport’s.  I wonder.  Making the Centauro into a Daytona RS seems pretty worthwhile.

Something funny here...  Dr John Ciccone was a very good friend of mine, a podiatrist who lived in California but has now sadly passed. He had one of the first 1100 Sports, LM III and one of the last LeMans 1000s among other bikes.  But he never had a Centauro or any other Centauro engined bike, and I can’t remember him every selling a bike to NZ. I can’t believe there would be two Guzzi guys of that name... Interesting.

You can certainly make a Centauro into an RS if you have the parts.  Guzzi made the RS fairings by trimming 1100 Sport fairings, I’ve done it myself and it’s not hard so either fairing will work for you.

 I remember what a PITA is was having to switch subframes just to fit the trapezoidal headlight and euro fairing to my RS.
Totally worth it though.
 If you want to get really crazy, Paul Minnaert has a Daytona with his homemade tail section. I think he sells them.

I don't know if this bike belonged or was build by Dr. John C. I just based my statement on someone else who commented about thinking that he was knowing this bike, and thinking that it could have belonged to the Dr. C

So if he build it great, if not then someone else did a great job building this bike. Either way, it sounds like that Dr. John C. was a great guy either way too.

  Is there a different final drive ratio betwixt my '93 and later model Daytona's? Is the Centauro final drive ratio the same as in Daytona's? R3~

It all depends on one's body type / shape.  I am 5' 8" with a 30" inseam and my Centauro fits me like a glove, and I have ridden it comfortably for 500+ miles.  If you are tall, and have long arms and a long inseam, I suppose the Sport 1100 would be fine, but too stretchy for me. :cool: :thumb: :wink:

The clip-ons on my old '83 LeMans III were so uncomfortable, I modified it with a set of upright, superbike bars, and they worked much better for me, anyway.  :thumb: :wink: :cool:
