Oh The Pain

I’m a 1952 model & still enjoy tenting . W/many orthopedic issues i rely on my Go-Kot w/a therm-a-rest on top for a good nights sleep . I’ve been accused of scarring bears snoring , don’t bother me ! As for the other issue , i try to keep fluid intake down & usually only 2-3 trips outside for star gazing . My brolly is always close at hand if rain threatens. I to fear an unexpected jug failure .

Those Go-Kots look pretty comfy!  I might have to check those out....

Those urine bottles are so warm and comforting when it gets in the low 50ºs.

LOL, the piss bottle conundrum...... We had to ban them while deployed. One kid had 45 full 1 liter piss bottles in his CHU on one of the FOBS in Iraq.  He was on a 1 week rotation, one week in sector, one week back on the FOB. Too lazy to walk to the latrine, so just kept stacking them up.  All was good until one week, the power was out, the AC dead, and the little converted cargo container baked in the Sun. Not sure how many burst, but it was nasty......... Then there was the time a crew kept tossing the full bottles in the back of their patrol vehicles. Was all fun and games until they hit an IED.....

I have to say though that a burst piss bottle was preferable to burning poo and JP8 (diesel fuel) in cut down steel drums. Glad those days are mostly over.

Nothing better than camping and sleeping under the stars, though I prefer the Hammock and Tarp if I can find the right place to set up.

Ah yes, those wonderful piss bottles.  Do not spill one in subfreezing weather so that it floods your tent, soaks into your sleeping bags, and freezes.  Do not do this thing.  It can only lead to tears.

Float on a cloud, stand up to change, sit to get the boots off & on, if a pee on a tree is needed in the night, well, the fire needs stoking too. Up with the birds before dawn, watch the day begin over a good coffee. Life doesn't get much better.

Am I showing my age by admitting that when I saw the title of the thread, I heard it in Jonathan Harris' voice? "Oh, I'm not English, I'm just affected!"

I'm a Civil War reenactor, so I sleep in a tent regularly. A canvas A-tent is (IMHO) more comfortable than a modern tent because it is taller and easier to get in and out of. And it's no less waterproof, even without treatment (Don't touch the inside when it's raining!!!) It is, however, heavier and harder to pack unless you have a mule train.

And each time you moved camp, you'd have to chop down some trees for the ridge poles & uprights. These some these days who'd look askance at that, even if you could find suitable saplings. You'd also have to dig a trench all around, to keep the water from flooding through. No such thing as lightweight camping back then, you came prepared.

I thought I'd mastered the fine art of peeing out of my hammock until one morning I discovered I'd pissed in my boot.
