T3 Tank Cap Leak/Seep

Hello fellow Guzzi enthusiasts!

My T3's gas tank weeps out of the fill aperture. Not the gas cap itself, which does seem to seal, but the lower insert that the cap seals to.

In the following image you can see the gap where gas seems to be seeping from.


What's the proper way to fix this? As tempted as I am to squirt gas resistant RTV into that gap I'd thought I'd ask for advice here first.

It's not a huge problem but I'm tired of reeking of gas after each ride.

If you are going to try and seal that seam, you would be best to use a product called "SEAL-ALL".  Available at most hardware outlets in a yellow tube.  Consistency of model airplane glue.  Clear.  Could be applied by a tiny brush in multiple coats.  I've used it very successfully on a number of fuel tanks.

How about that loctite product in the tubeless tires thread? Wicking loctite - forgot the number.

Loctite 290 maybe? Interesting idea. I wonder about its resistance to solvents such as gasoline. Will have to look into that.

I'll second Patrick's recommendation. had a customer's Le Mans III here that had a pinhole in the perfect location to spray the cylinder head. Two coats of Seal All and it held for the several months before he decided to replace the tank.
