Gloves

As the house nears completion from the flood (another month hopefully) time to start replacing Motorcycle gear (gloves and helmets, leg covers, etc.) First go out to Roadgear to replace my favorite gloves (no longer in business). So I'm looking for recommendations on gloves summer through winter short through gauntlet. Imelda Marcus had shoes and i had motorcycle gloves.  I will not be replacing quantity, but going for quality. Prefer deer/goat/elkskin. Gauntlets and short cuffs. Just trying to narrow down the search. In the past I've used Motorcyclegear.com since they were new enough but open to other suggestions as far as vendors or brands. I should be buying within the next couple of weeks.

Yeah, I burned through a knuckle with Ropers.. the only injury on a 50 foot slide on chip and seal.  I won't wear gloves without knuckle protection again. <shrug>
FWIW, I (cough cough) paid  a hundred bucks for some Sedici "race" gloves at Cycle Gear. They looked good at the time, and have passed the test of time 3-4 years later.

I’ve been using a pair of the Lee Parks Deer Sport gloves for a few months and they’re pretty nice. Super soft deerskin and seem to be well made:

I had thought of Aerostich. I must have had 20 pairs, which I won't replace them all. My favorites were the roadgear and the gauntlets I picked up at a leather shop in SD.

Oh and of course the 2 pairs of Red Moto Guzzi leather gloves which always left the hands pink in the rain. Those will be missed.

I, too, have the Imelda glove syndrome. I find that I have to try before I buy usually. Even within brands the sizing is different. Aerostich's elk skin Ropers are a regular fallback. Five have a huge range many of which fit my hands well. My favourites there, of course, are no longer made. Held have a couple of decent ones that work well for me, though they are not necessarily cheap. You just have to do the hard yards and visit the retail outlets. Think of the joy. Check out heated gloves (plug in to the battery) for winter.

I got a pair of Fox Creek elkskin gloves. Nice, but they seemed to run a little small.

I have been using these Lee Parks gloves for several years and really like them.  They have also held up well.

I was lucky enough to buy them at a bike show from Lee Parks himself.  Since there is some small variability in size from pair to pair, he helped me find a pair that fit me almost perfectly -- a somewhat difficult task given my definitely imperfect hands

Like Cam I went with Held, but the Spot model. Summer gloves. I like 'em. Replace my Dainese Summer glove that the fabric wore through.
I think these are very good quality. Sizing seems true - fit like a glove!

Sad but true, bikes haven't moved out of storage since I brought them there in February, but since nobody want's the Centauro and the Stone's not worth anything I guess I need to plan on some fall riding

Great suggestions so far.  Get a pair with gore-tex(rain) and kevlar. (Hot weather)

Not going to recommend brand because mine are at least 5 years old, and new tech is always coming out.

I have been on a glove hunt for two years now. I have this problem where I always imagine there’s something I’ll like a bit more, and it’s cost me more money than I want to admit...

First, I did NOT like the Lee Parks gloves. The internet is in love with them, and I was convinced they would be the best. When they showed up, they seemed cheaply made, and did not give me confidence they would last as long as people say. Maybe I got a lemon? I personally suspect these are a result of the internet echo chamber effect. As I said, I seem to be the only person on the planet who doesn’t like these gloves, so maybe I’m wrong.

Before the Lee Parks, I tried a pair of Aerostich. They were nice, and well made, but have a seam that irritated the side of my finger. I was hoping it would go away as they broke in, but it never went away. I gave up after a couple of months.

For winners, I have three so far...

Spidi Garage gloves have been great for summer riding. Comfortable, breathable, and I’ve had zero issues after a year of constant use. Seem to be going strong still.

Spidi Old Glory. I had so much luck with the Garage gloves, I wanted to try another pair that wasn’t as breathable, for cooler weather. These were hard to find and took forever to get here from Germany, but they are really nice, and look even tougher than the Garage gloves.

Finally, I just ordered the Held Steve Classic gloves, for something with a gauntlet, and with an option for long finger length. These JUST got here, but they seem like they’re going to be real winners. Very comfy off the bat, strong construction, and the fit is great for me. They haven’t been tested thoroughly yet, but I think they’re going to live up to the hype.

I recently bought a couple of pairs of PTK (Protect the King) gloves. One full fingered, one fingerless, both padded with armored knuckles. The price was so cheap that I expected them to be total crap, but I've been impressed as hell with them. Really good quality and extremely comfortable. I recommend checking them out.
