All of the cool kids are doing it... 2nd Ride of the Year
« on: February 05, 2020, 10:49:30 AM »
Sunny and 60 degrees F, what else was I to do? Blew off work and went riding. The Convert is still "lame" (screw still in the rear tire), so the V700 went instead. Nothing spectacular - just west on I-68 to Cumberland, MD with a brief lunch break, then south on MD51 to WV9 and on home. A little over 200 miles total. Glad I did - back to cold, dreary and wet again.

Ready to roll.

Mexico Farms, part of CSX's Cumberland rail yard.

"Beautiful" downtown Paw Paw, WV.

Along the Cacapon River near Connor Hollow, WV9.

View from Prospect Peak, WV9, west of Berkeley Springs, WV.

Excellent ride report, Charlie! I really like how those DB repop lowers look on your loop. I bet they are real nice to ride behind in the cooler weather.   :thumb:

I'm way behind too compared to my friend Blaine Paulus. He rode 3914 miles in January! Here are his stats:

1/31/2020
Month 3,914.. 1,315 miles more than January 2019
BMWMOA 2019 annual mileage contest . Ends in March..58,658... 4,971 more miles than the 2018 contest at this time.
331 days straight of 100+ miles in a day. Been a warm , hardly any snow January. 2/6 will be 11 months straight.
7,284 days of 10+ miles at one time per day . If I can make it to 2/21 that will be 20 years of riding everyday.

Jealous of your bare fields and nice roads Charlie. If I'd done 200 miles I would have been dropping peripheral body parts along the way.  Great photos as usual.

Those roads are almost familiar to ME; you can probably ride them with your eyes closed and count the expansion joints to know when to turn ....

A pretty part of the country in which to ride ...

Nice pics of your ride.  Glad you got one in before the dreary weather returned.   :bike-037:

I try to alternate which direction I go. Last ride (Jan. 12th) was north into PA - through Catoctin, Michaux, Shippensburg for lunch, then home a fairly direct route. Before that, it was south to Wardensville, WV for lunch, over through Wolf Gap to the Shenandoah Valley and home via backroads skirting Winchester. All "pretty country" and interesting, lightly-traveled roads abound.

I don't go east from here much though - too much "civilization" (and the traffic that comes with it) to somehow avoid.

Some photos from 12-28-2019.

Such pretty scenery, looks perfect for riding, I can only dream, snow and ice for another three months around here.

There have been Winters here that were much the same. But, so far this Winter (crossing fingers, knocking on wood) it's been milder than usual. It's been raining quite a bit with more in the forecast. Ten degrees cooler and it could be snow - lots of it. I'm glad it's not.

Thanx Charlie. Get out and do good for yourself. I've been near there several times, when it was green.
I'm still setting records riding: 'Most often to be the oldest rider'.
I'll only take the Daytona out if I'm guaranteed to have a catcher.
