SP1000 5spd = LM1 5spd?

A friend's LM1 lost 3rd gear last summer and he's found a low mileage SP1000 5speed for sale.  Are there any differences to be aware of?

Should bolt straight  in.

If he goes forward with that transmission I would suggested he have it resealed and maybe while its out replace the gear selector spring its the case on back of the transmission comes apart it's easier to do it on a bench instead of getting the bike trucked home

Great advice TOMB.  He's talking about new seals and clutch, but we'd not thought of the gear selector spring.

     Has he had the the lemans transmission apart to see what is screwed up? May be easier to just fix what he has than to take on another "project".

He's not.  My recollection is that within 10 miles of getting home it started making noise and shifting hard, then 3rd dropped out.  Sounded expensive what ever it is.  He's thinking get a good gearbox and clutch then spend a weekend on it and save the original 'box for when he has more time.
