2013 Norge Issue
« on: April 28, 2020, 01:31:20 PM »
Got a call form a friend that is having an issue with his 2013 Norge. He had it up and running this spring but today when he went to start it he just got a click from the starter and no go. After disconnecting the battery and and then reconnecting it to boot back up the bike started but he got the red triangle and service light. That cleared and he checked the codes and found this. ASPN002
He cant find any reference in his manuals that say what this coke means. Any one seen this before? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I waited a couple of days to see if anyone else offered anything.
I tried searching for that code but the closest I could find was DSB 02 which is "Key not present or transponder broken"
Personally I wouldn't worry as long as the red triangle has disappeared.
I think the original error may have been caused by a weak or flat battery or bad connection.
Always scrape the battery terminals to expose shiny lead then apply some grease to exclude Oxygen, Vaseline is my grease of choice.

Has your friend done the "Startus Interuptus" fix on his bike otherwise its only a matter of time until it refuses to start and give the dreaded click even with a fully charged battery.
The Starter solenoid would like to have over 40 Amps to pull the gear into place and close the main contacts, unfortunately the factory wires choke this back to about 25 Amps on a good day and route it through the ignition switch to boot.
http://www.thisoldtractor.com/guzzi007/schematics/2007_Norge.gif  The yellow feed to the Start Relay (3) is weak and the wire from the relay to solenoid is undersized.
The usual fix is to snip the yellow wire just before the relay and tie it to a new 20 Amp in-line fuse direct from the battery, most owners don't bother but the wire from relay to solenoid should be increased a size as well, 16 AWG or 1.5 mm2

ALLWAYS scrape the battery terminals to expose shiny lead then slather the terminals with some grease to exclude Oxygen, Vaseline is my grease of choice.

Thanks for the information. You are on target with the "Startus Interupus" issue. Seems that the CARC bikes are subject to this as well. Found out that the code  is just a tag that comes up when you have disconnected and reconnected the battery and rebooted the system. The fix is a bit different to deal with the issue but now have what we need to do so.  :thumb:

The number on dash at reboot is the dash code, tells mfg what map is in dash. This is different than FI map.
Working at the dealer I had to update dashes on Aprillia's, you look at this # on reboot.
No updates on CARC dashes, maybe the Cal14 but I quit & retired, don't want to fix flashing triangles or dashes.
