convert exhaust extensions
« on: March 18, 2020, 04:30:28 AM »

I have just got myself a 76 convert imported from Italy and going over it to see what attention is needed and removed the mufflers and the header pipes on both sides have been extended by 250 mm . is this a modification for what or why has it been done. the bike is showing 27000 km on the speedo and by what ive seen of it so far it would seem to be reasonably accurate mileage.  anybody have any ideas whats going on.   you've got a convert Charlie, whats your opinion ??    thanks Bill

I think that's stock. If not, the stock T/T3/Vert/G5 crossover was like that. An extra foot long extending into muffler...I chopped mine short to fit on some BUB mufflers

I'm new to Converts, so no knoweledge on those pipes. I can tell you that the exaust from a Bassa bolts straight up. My 76 Convert has the stainless exhaust from a 99 Bassa with an H pipe cross over. Boltes straight to the bike and frame.  May be something to consider if you are looking to replace and dont want a stock setup.

Lengthening of exhausts can increase torque on a V1000? Reducing flow rate?  Someone fill me in, please.

Found it, I didnt look hard enough, the answer is in guzziology  chapter 8 page 10 and by reading Dave Richardson's comments  he's not overly sure himself why it was done but possibly  for noise restriction.  Thanks for all reply's.  Bill
