V 85 queries
« on: March 28, 2020, 05:01:59 PM »
Can someone give me the actual seat height of their standard V85 please ?
A straight edge over the seat with an average of two vertical readings, one each side and let me know where their ride height (pre load) is set ?
Also.
Does anyone get a fair sound from their timing chain on high rpm overrun on the ‘85 ?

I've shagged around with the rubbers under the seat, replacing them with thinner versions to reduce the seat height slightly, so my measurements would not be applicable.  But I sat a level across the turned up top of the side covers, and measured 735 mm when the bike was completely upright.  The preload is set to the lowest setting.

Haven't noticed any sound from the timing chain.  Have you had access to any else's V85 to compare?

Firstly have you had any mail from Oz ?
Shouldn’t be long...
Thanks for the info on the seat Dave.
No I haven’t had the chance yet.

No sign of the package yet, Huzo.

It took five-six weeks to receive some valve cap pressure indicators from Melbourne.  The guy at Tire-checkers offered to resend them, but when he went to the post office, he was told that all shipments were on hold due to --19.

The original package arrived the following day.  I get the feeling I'm being watched!

You made me go and measure them again.  This time with a ruler rather than a tape measure, confirm 735 to the top of the upper lip on the side panels where the bottom of the level sits across.

I replaced my tyres with Michelin Road 5 Trail versions just under 4,000 kM ago, but I doubt if that makes much difference.  Can't remember noticing it.

What are you measuring on yours, Huzo?

A straight edge across the seat where your arse touches, then measure to the ground both sides, then average the two readings.
The standard is 835 and I got mine to 815.
I can’t do any better.

Yeah, it's a little imprecise where exactly the arse touches (we should be talking area measurements here), but I got 835 mm as well.

I have replaced the  rubber seat bungs that touch the frame with short-arsed versions.

I can’t recall the last (or first) time I had my arse measured, but if you have a 9” ruler I guess I could take one for the team... :undecided:
