Convert starter woes
« on: April 12, 2020, 08:46:39 PM »
I posted this on FB, but figured the braces and suspenders bunch would get a kick out of it too.

So what do you do when the starter relay on your Guzzi Convert craps out while you're out on a lengthy 'social distancing' critical ride to buy fuel (for the emergency generator, officer)?

You can't push-start it and you have no tools.

Well, you pfaff around checking all the wires for half an hour, then you remove the metal seat support rod from under the seat, put one of your gloves on, then arc across the solenoid.
Brmmm, Brmmm. Result. Ride home.  :thumb:

Nick

PS. The pics were taken before I started off.

Had to do the same thing with my first Convert while on a ride with a group of friends. How embarrassing!

You never turn it off!...

Left mine idling to make a porta John donation and came out to find a couple Harley guys scratching their heads at the rear wheel spinning on the centerstand.

Love converts.

Can you not wire a momentary push button or toggle switch to the starter as a back up??

Did that Chuck. Made no difference.  The starter circuit is direct and non-standard and will spin the starter even when the ignition is off.
