Oh well.  Mayor’s announcement happened late yesterday here; vast majority of all public library employees will be furloughed for an indeterminate amount of time beginning May 3rd.  Kinda expected it as we’ve been closed to the public since mid March.  Could be worse and is worse, I’m sure, for a lot of people out there.  In fact, I feel kinda lucky to “maybe” have a job back in a couple months or so depending.

Best of luck to you.  Hope we're all back and taken care of as soon as possible.

I've been on furlough since the 3rd, back to work on the 11th of May.
As BP said, much much worse for many many people.

Got to just hope all the lockdowns are having the desired effect . . . despite those ignoring them!

Thanks for the well wishes.  I just hope they can keep with their word of not truly laying anyone off.  I’m sure during this interim some of the folks will find other employment and not return when we reopen.  If past history proves correct, they likely won’t fill those vacant jobs in an effort to prevent further cuts.  But oh well.  My wife also works in the library but she is in collections and not public services per se, so she was not furloughed.

Time to work on bikes!

I should take my own advice but I'm out working on cutting trails, improving river and creek banks so the grandchildren can enjoy them, putting in the vegetable garden, and clearing land.   Coming in tired every night, getting into poison ivy something fierce, but enjoying myself immensely.   I figure I'll do this while I can ... I've got 3 bikes on the road, the other 5 aren't in a hurry.

I just don't understand this TV binge-watching thing that people seem to be into .... ??

You will be  ok......I worked big construction  projects, hired at the start, laid off at the finish.....So I lost every job I had......Two best days were a layoff and getting hired onto a new project....So you got some new adventures in your life...... :thumb:

I found that to be true too ... I was always excited about the change coming after my last day on a job ... time off, relaxation ... for a while.

But JUST as exciting was getting the call with an offer that I was hoping for!   I can remember every detail about every time it happened.

I'm with Lannis. Homesteading has taken on a fresh sense of purpose. The sense of drudgery I used to feel as the Spring projects "piled-on" has been replaced by a renewed connection to the land and that which truly nourishes.

They just furloughed 10 drivers where I work. However, it was optional and they started with most years of service and worked down. The option didn’t make it to me. Actually, my work schedule increased bc of it. Which I have mixed feelings about. I’m happy money will be back to normal. But dangit, I just got a huge order in from MG Cycle for the Quota and now have less time! Oh well, it’ll get done.

Last week I did plant a small garden for the first time in about 5 years.  Planted tomatoes, herbs, peppers and zucchini.  :thumb:

Had a bad experience with a garden?

They can be frustrating - late frosts, borer worms killing the vine plants, soil not acid enough for the blueberries ....

but hang it there, it can be a rewarding experience!

What I think is that I'm going to learn a new skill during the "downtime" ... I'm getting an instructor and giving this a go ...

My wife got it also at Duke University as a physical therapist. I was trying to talk her in retiring 6 months early and this stuff scares me and Its have to work close to people. So she said screw and sign up for social security all the while social distancing. It's kind of weird having her around all the time.  :thewife:
