Rear Shock question
« on: April 19, 2020, 07:03:37 PM »
I recently purchased a 97 Cal 1100. The original owner passed away, he had put a set of shorter progressives on because of his stature. The original bitubo's came with the bike, and had been leaking from the seals. The bike only has 32k on it. Is there anyone you would recommend they be sent to for a rebuild? or is this something the average guy can do if he could find a rebuild kit? Thanks in advance. BK

I don't think they are rebuildable.

Anyway it would probably just as expensive to rebuild as new progressives or hagons http://www.hagonshocksusa.com/HagApps6.htm

Thanks Mickey for your response. I figured I'd throw a question out there to access the best course of action to take. BK

I have some re-buildable bitubos, and I have re-built them, you need a special "pin" wrench to unscrew the end but not overly difficult, the seal kit wasn't expensive but I had to take it to my motorcycle dealer to get the gas re-charged. Obviously I have no idea if yours are the same. I f they are  it will have two small holes on the flat surface where the damper rod comes out of the body, that is where the "pin wrench" engages to unscrew the cap.

Exact same situation here. Really nice OEM Bitubos leaked out nitrogen then oil. Pretty sure Bitubo P/N is G0016WMB 01(Chrome) or 02 (Black)  Suffix 01 or 02 is an "I think"....
-Rebuild kit is Bitubo GR0010. Pretty sure they are about $50 each kit/shock.  Different springs are available too.

-Problem is, it's a huge PITA to locate a Bitubo parts dealer in USA, even harder to locate an official repair shop. The last best one I was aware of is Belissimoto in Las Vegas. Great shop, specialize in performance bike suspensions, heavy involved with Eurobikes. Please call them first, to see if they're still working with Bitubo. Last I heard they were having difficulty with Bitubo - as in ignored a lot, and were frustrated at the entirety of Italy taking August off for vacation. For real. Didn't know. But you ain't gonna get nothing or a return call from Italy late July thru September.....Guess when I needed parts...1st week of August, of course.

-Belissimoto will look up current parts #, order ahead of time, receive your shocks & rebuild, recharge, return ship them (provided they're still BiTubo USA's rep). Or order the parts, whatev.

For what its worth - the BiTubos are very expensive shocks, work well when they work, but I gotta say - I temporarily put a set of Hagon 36010 shocks on the same Cal 1100 and can't get over how good they are for the money. Safe bet. And as everyone will tell you, the Koni's (Icons) are worth every penny and you don't have the nitrogen to leak out. They are in my book the best shock out there for Tonti Guzzi's. So easy and cheap to rebuild, and with a raft of diff springs available.
