(Finished) Grand son will rock a Guzzi soon
« on: March 29, 2020, 06:00:43 PM »
Your seeing about 10 days of work. The final project should look something like a cross between A California Stone , V9 Bobber, and a little like a Lemans. I’m sanding and glueing parts now seeing how things are working. The wheels will turn, and the front end turn. Thinking I’ll add rear shocks, and a tail light. Once I get the cylinder finished they will have some fins, I’d like to make them bigger, but too big and he won’t be able to get his feet on the front pegs, and I broke the router bit after the first cut, so have to wait until I need to go to town for something essential. I thought about paint, a nice Red, but friends have been pushing for Stain. It’s a fun project and I like many have time to play, glad I have a shop to stay away from the media. My Grandson turns 2 in 2 weeks, since this is taking longer than I thought it’s ok I won’t be done in time. Gives me more time to customize the plans to make it look more like a Guzzi. I’m open to comments and suggestions. I just couldn’t  figure out a way to make the rear drive work with the plans. Maybe my next Grand child will get a Norge.

Cool project! Maybe paint the body like the tank, body panels and seat area red and stain the rest?

I found stain  called antique white I’ll use for inside rims, exhaust, and forks. Tank, fenders, and body panels will be a dark maroon stain called carabana, the wheels, seat, and frame parts will be a dark stain called Kona. That’s the plan so far.

Looks like a cool project! Got a link to the plans? My first grandson is 8 months old, so I have some time...

I saw one of those at Rider Warehouse in Duluth Mn they used it to measure and modify the arms and legs of people buying their Aerostitch suits. Pretty cool, I considered making this  rocker lean from side to side
But thought that might be too much for a 2 year old to master.
Maybe the next one.

A little change here and there to make it look like a Guzzi...
Thanks,

The Rocking Guzzi project is almost complete. I have around 150 hours into this. I’m going to add a white reflector for the head light, and I’m thinking about Motoguzzi saddle bag emblems for the sides of the gas tank, I have one but it seems to large for the tank. Thankfully daughter #2 isn’t married yet, so I should have a couple years before I get to do another. It was a fun project. Next time I’ll beg borrow or steel an oscillating spindle sander, the wheels were very time consuming, and hard to balance. When I look at it close up I see all the imperfections, but from four or 5 feet away with a beer in my hand I’m happy with the result. I want to see the look on the little guys face when he goes for his first ride, but it may have to be by video, after I deliver it to their garage. PS. In case your wondering, one of the neat features of this is the wheels and handle bar turn and move, it will be interesting to see if this was a mistake, he loves watching and making things move, the moving handle bars may make it unstable to rock, and I’m concerned he may get his hand or fingers caught  while turning them.  But they can be screwed in place if this becomes a problem,I hope not.

Omg, that is off the charts in the cool factor, extremely well done!  :thumb:

I agree, many guaranteed smiles per miles for that lucky young lad.

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful project.

That looks sweet! I have a cheapo Chinese set of drum sanders (Guzzi content) for sanding inside radius's. Chuck one up in the drill press and go for it. The kid is going to beat the hell out of it in short order so no worries!
