.... and then do the last 80 miles home in a cold hard steady rain.   The Aerostich gear paid for itself yet again; there's nothing like Gore-Tex for wet weather.   I hate glove covers though, so I end up with cold wet hands if I'm not prepared with the KLIM snowmobile gloves, which I wasn't, not having sense enough to look at the weather forecast.

If you get a cheap pair of plastic gloves (i'm talking free from Subway) and put them on over your bike cloves it stops the water evaporation so your hands stay warm even if soaking wet;
A couple of plastic bags over your boots if you get caught in the rain do the same thing, Cyclist overboots are excellent as well.

I've never tried the plastic glove thing, mainly because I value the tactile sensation that I need to control the bike and operate switches that is compromised by multiple layers of gloves, but I may just keep a pair in the glove box ("gloves" in a "glove box", whatever will happen next?) for emergencies.   If I'm prepared, my KLIM Goretex gloves do as well as anything ...

Thanks!

I've long carried mechanics latex gloves as a backup of last resort when my gloves are overwhelmed by weather. Slip them on, then gloves over. Keeps heat in, and wet off, and doesn't effect tactile feel. On long trips with lots of wet weather, I also have a set of seal skinz gloves and socks.

I cant envision sipping loose floppy plastic liners over the top, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.....
