V9 Low Fuel Light
« on: May 08, 2020, 05:55:56 PM »
How many miles do you usually go before the fuel light comes on? And how many miles have you ridden with the light on and counter running?
Just looking to see what is up with my bike. The light comes on at around 125 miles. I haven't had to ride it more than 15 miles or so before filling up again so don't have any real idea how far the reserve is good for. Just seems that the light is coming on to soon but who knows. Manual says that the tank capacity is 3.9 USG but filling on the side stand I have never been able to put much more than 2.5 gallons in. I am sure that if the bike was filled up sitting up right you could get a bit more in. Or I could just not be using all that is available in the reserve mode. Anyway some input would be interesting.

My fuel light comes on pretty quickly. I did a test and got a further 70 odd km (not miles) before it ran out.

Once the light comes on the speedo switches to one of the trip modes which shows how far you've travelled on reserve.

I went to 176 miles between fill-up's one day last week.   The light came on about 125 like it always does.   Knowing I have 4 gallons and that 125-135 miles is 2.3 - 2.5 gallons , then I also know that I can make it to my favorite gas station if I want to.
I haven't pushed it that far yet but I believe it would  do 200 miles  on a tank full  (of the way I drive -when I'm being good)

I find it odd that the V-9 get better fuel millage than my V-7II ?

One tank of gas is enough for me for 300 km. The warning light comes on after 200 km.

My Roamer lights the low fuel indicator at 125 miles, more or less; it's gone 27 miles on "reserve".

Big thanks gents! That all lines up with what I have experienced. Now I have a much better idea of where things are at. :thumb:

To be really confident strap a gallon on the back and ride it until it stops, that way you will know for certain.
Just make sure you are in an area where you can safely pull over, not rolling down the freeway with large trucks all around.

I wouldn’t do that.  You likely would be fine,  but running a FI motor out of gas isn’t a great idea.  But in the unlikely event their is any crap in the bottom of the tank it will get sucked in to the filter.

All the gas is circulating through the filter several times an hour, the pump grinds anything like rust up like talcum powder.
I agree that its likely some will settle on the bottom and only pick up at the very last.
If you want to find out the range it's the only way.

I did what Roy says, my bike was only a couple of months old and I really wanted to know what range I had left with the light on. It coughed and spluttered a bit then stopped a few seconds later as you would expect.

I emptied my can into her and she started straight away, no dramas.
