V50ii purchase
« on: July 25, 2020, 10:08:08 PM »
I picked up this 1980 v50ii today in a package deal with a 77 BMW R100S.

The MG has 7600 miles and needs a good thorough refreshing. The paint is great and tank very clean. Tires are shot and it needs carb and brake rebuilds. It has a BMW S fairing which I will not reinstall.  I think it will make a good garage mate for my G5 custom when finished. The BMW will go away for a later project. I’ll post the v50 as it gets refreshed. I’m very interested to ride it - I‘ve still never ridden a Guzzi. I bit the bullet and ordered a complete new exhaust for the G5 project.  Mistral head pipes and crossover, billet head mount and chrome  LaFraconi competzione low pipes from MG Cycle.  They arrived in three days (well all but the crossover which is back ordered).  They came in today and look fantastic. Time to clear the lift and start assembling the bike.

I rode a V50 one weekend before I bought my Mille.  It didn't have much low RPM punch, but once I got going the engine perked up considerably.  In comparison, both my Mille & Eldorado have a "stump pulling" torque sensation practically right from idle.  On the other hand, it was really fun on twisty back roads, but on the highway, not so much.  It could keep up with traffic at 60-65 mph, but it wasn't happy and it didn't seem that it really had that much more potential speed in reserve.  People have & still do tour on V50s, but it wouldn't be one of my bikes of choice for that kind of riding.

Your "new" V50 does look like it will clean up really nice without too much effort or $$$!
