rear brake caliper pin removal

Hi All,

I'm taking off the rear wheel and need to loosen/remove the brake caliper pin that fixes the brake in place. Problem is the dealer totally stripped it out and I'm trying not to make the problem worse.

Question: This was an allen head pin correct? What size is it (was it)? An 8mm allen fit into the axel pinch bolt, but it seems to big for the caliper pin? A 7mm is too small?

Any brake part like that may have a thread locking compound applied.  You may have to heat the part to soften the locking compound. Most will release in the 400 degree range.  You may have to make a wrench to fit a bolt that is stripped.  A picture may help identify the head style.

Both the V7C & the 2014 V7S use the 8mm Allen on the caliper pin & the rear axle pinch bolt. In 340,000km I've removed & replaced both many a time and never have had any misadventures with the threads or heads of those bolts. The thread on the final drive drain on the other hand .......

With the length of fine thread on the caliper bolt, there should be no necessity for locking compounds. A little grease couldn't hurt.

Dremel cut some slots and hand impact it out.
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.

If you're still trying to remove the pin & the head has been mangled so the 8mm won't fit, I suggest getting hold of some impact bits - an 8mm (for later on) and a couple of torx bits of the appropriate size to fit the mangled hole, with the persuasion of an American screwdriver (the 6lb hammer) on the end on a ratchet arm.

You should probably try to clean up the thread with a tap before using the replacement pin. You can get a better angle on that with the swingarm on the bench. Fortunately, removing and replacing the swingarm is easy enough, the only fiddlely bit is the boot - and that needs a fine examination for holes & splits. Hopefully the thread is not so far gone that it needs a helicoil or the like.

Yes.  8mm.   I’d spray some solvent into the hole, scrub with a toothpick, then blow it out with compressed air to make sure the Allen key fits all the way in.   

If you get it out, clean the threads and apply anti-seize compound.  These are very fine threads.  There is no need for Locktite on this bolt. 
Accentuate the positive;
Eliminate the negative;
Latch on to the affirmative;
Don't mess with Mister In-Between.
