I spent a few days in Mandello del Lario back in the early 1990s, and it is just as beautiful as in the video—perhaps more so. The entire Como area is stunning, but be careful of going there in the spring if you suffer hay fever allergies...

"Paese che vai" is an old italian saying (proverb) that means every place you go has it's use i.e. customs, uniqueness, character etc (sorta like "when in rome").  It's an italian series that highlights the less touristic spots around italy.

Turn on CC (closed captions, adjust setting to auto translate to engrish, its not perfect but good enough to get the gist of whats going on.

There are so many things I could say that could and should get me banned..
Suffice to say that Mandello del Lario feels like Como without the billionaire surcharge on every bloody thing.
There just does not seem to be one downside to the place. It’s fair to say that once you move a couple of k’s away from the lake, it does start to look and feel more “normal”, but you’ve only to ride or walk 10 minutes in one direction and you are in peaceful tranquility.

Spectacular..!

It’s a pretty complete tour of the town, they showed the ice cream place on the lake at least three times  :thumb: One time I was with a group of BMW people staying at Mamma Ciccia, and after checking in some of us decided to take the short walk there.  Once we were settled in, ice creams in hand, one of the group turned and suddenly said “wow, there’s a lake here”. He’s not a geographic genius

The lake is obviously a big attraction, Carcano stayed in Mandello after leaving Guzzi and initially designed competitive sailing boats instead of racing motorcycles.  For those wondering about the Moto Guzzi rowing club etc, this started a long time ago (50s or 60s I’d guess) and was part of the ‘company town’ setup of that era.  I believe at one point Guzzi even provided housing for the workers.

I'll bet that our svelte tour guide doesn't eat many of those big sugar-coated pancakes she was tucking into there at the end ... !

Mamma mia, come puoi confondere il ice cream con il gelato?       or...how in the heck can you confuse ice cream with gelato!

Well, like most here, I didn't notice the substitution ... If he'd have said "gelato", I'd have envisioned a waffle cone full of strawberry Jell-o ....

Non sono uno snob del gelato e negli ultimi 20 anni ho trascorso abbastanza tempo in Italia da ‘dare per scontato’ il gelato italiano

Re Italian language, there is another video in same series on Bellano, which is just up the road from Mandello. Maybe the series is local to that area.  Bellano has a nice location but a rather unfortunate name
