Removing ignition key lock on Norge
« on: August 25, 2020, 09:45:05 AM »
My 2007 Norge key tip broke off in the ignition tumbler.  I removed the 6mm bolt but there is a "drill out" I'm told.  Advice on how to remove the lock tumbler to fish out the key tip or replace?  Also, who cuts keys for the Norge.  It's a paddle with a trench cut down either side, not the traditional tumbler with pips on the key.

Don't locksmiths have a tool for removing a broken key?

Wouldn't it be easier (cheaper <Guzzi content>) to take the switch to a professional?

I had to find a specialty locksmith to cut a spare key for my Norge when one broke...not everyone can do it.  May need to hunt around your area to look for a unique locksmith, mine was mobile so he came to the house.

Have never taken out the tumbler on my Norge, so not able to guide on how to remove it...do you have a manual you can refer to?

If it's similar to the V7, to get the ignition off, you'll have to remove the "upper plate" - aka the top triple clamp (easy to say, isn't it? Just like a Moto Guzzi Service Manual). There's an M8x16 hex socket screw on one side, and on the other the anti-theft snap bolt. From memory, once upside down on the bench, it was pretty easy to get out - a punch, a drill, an ezy-out. I replaced the snap bolt with an ordinal hex socket screw, the same as the one on the other side.

I got nothing for you, but before you break out the bigger hammer, find out where the receiver is for your chipped key on that bike.

I know some car ignitions there is a ring around the key switch that reads the chipped key, bidk about mg's,,, you don't want to break that, fwiw.

     Good luck

On other vehicles I have used superglue on the very end of a flat blade screwdriver to retrieve a broken key. Be very careful that the key is all the superglue touches.

Just one question Malik..
