Mo-Kan Why I didn't make it.
« on: September 19, 2020, 06:31:50 AM »
My plans were to make the Mo-Kan as Ace has been a long time friend, plus it is a mighty fine rally.

I finally get away from the Oleo Ranch at 2PM and drive my Toyota pick up to Talihena, OK. Get a motel as I can no longer camp since the wreck of 3 years ago when I had 15 broken bones. Anyway, I've had two back surgeries and am not having another as I get by good enough. I have to sleep in a recliner and usually get a good nights sleep. In the motel I could not lay flat on my back or sleep on my side. Tried sitting in the chair. Nope. So I had a restless night and a busted back. At 5 AM I decided instead of going another 400 miles to the Mo-Kan rally it was best I went home.

So y'all can call me a sissy and circumcise me with a pair of pinking shears for not making the rally.
Tex

Pinking shears?  OUCH!

Well then, until that old body gets around to knitting back up, looks like WE'LL come to see YOU rather than the other way round ... !

I too sleep in a recliner because of back problems. I use a folding zero gravity chair when traveling on four wheels. These chairs are available at Cabela's and other outdoor type stores, Gander Mountain etc. They aren't my Lazy Boy but at least I can sleep. I am still looking for one that folds small enough to carry on bike.

Time to buy a camper , Ken.  And a 3 wheeler or a scooter. Ain't no shame in it. Lots of us have been "cheating" for a long time. Ain't like you don't know how to haul a trailer, lol.

Consider installing a recliner in the back of that Toyota and rally on!

I won’t make it either, for the same reasons.  My world sure gets smaller as my ability to walk goes away so l understand how much completing such a trip would have meant.  I wish I had something wise to say but my brain doesn’t work so well either.

Hey Tex,

I sure hope you can still make it over to the truck stop to make sure the "lot lizards" are wearing their - masks when making their rounds of the sleeper cabs!

Well, the MO-KAN went off great just like every year. The weather was perfect, and good time was had by all.

Doug and I did have a little excitement on the way north however (Cornelia, Mo)

Doug went into EMT mode and I went to slow down the idiot drivers. Luckily everyone was mostly OK.

Made it home safe and sound. Those Cal-Vin's haul ass!  :thumb:

Brian, Thanks for the tip about the chair. I've always had a tough back and it was no problem sleeping on a cement picnic table or in a ditch with a furniture pad for a sleeping bag. I drove for a company that delivered to cafes, rest etc. Sometimes I'd have a load of 40,000 plus pounds that all came off with a handcart. The company furnished a back brace. When I left the company the boss said it looks like the brace was never used. True!
