V7 Special Front Brake.
« on: November 24, 2020, 09:21:15 AM »
I'm currently working on a friend's 1969 V7 Special.
The main job is sorting the Front Brake (sound familiar?).
Shoes are away getting relined.
I'm also making up a new Cable, the old one wasn't horrendous, but I thought I may as well get everything as good as possible.

Made up a Tool for doing the Cable Ends.
You can buy them, but they're one of those "HOW MUCH?" items.

The drilling for the Cable Clamping (2.5mm) went a bit off-line, but it works OK.
I'll add other sizes as and when needed.

Quite pleased with how well it works.

I take it you clamp the cable then knock it down with a punch to get that shape?
Do you fill it with solder? Does it go straight into the nipple?

Hi Roy.
You can't see in the photo, but the Punch Rod has a slight chamfer on the end, and a 2.5mm pilot drilling (Cable size) in the centre of that, approx 2mm depth from the end.
The small drilling locates over the Cable to stop the ends separating.
Nipple (or Nipple Trumpet) is slid up to the 'Birdcaged' end, then Soldered together in a Solder Pot.
