2015 Moto Guzzi V7 II Racer mods
« on: December 19, 2020, 07:37:49 PM »
Hey gang,

Looking at possibly getting this used bike and it already has the LSL bars on which make it more comfortable, i do have long legs and the rear sets are a bit cramped, can the pegs be lowered or not due to being rear sets?

Thanks,
-Dave

The V7 III Racer pegs are adjustable, 3 positions, they come in the middle.  Not sure if the II is the same.  But it only goes down like 1/2" or so.

Comfort is a relative term. I fing the racer to be more comfortable than the stone.  Have you sat on a stock Racer?  A stone or Special?  I recommend you do before you decide.

Does the owner still have the clip ons?  Make sure you get them if you buy the bike.  Might help you sell it in the future.

I put Sato Rearsets on my bike and I believe they are further back than the racer rearsets.

Good luck.

The bikes at a dealer, buys very clean low mileage bikes but very little personality, I sat on the bike, I doubt the clip ons are still there, I have long arms and long legs at 6'2, with the LSL bars it felt great, standard rear sets were a bit cramped with 34'' legs, Ideally if pegs could be lowered and moved forward a bit would be best but if lowered a bit more, i could live with. I know the suspension is better on this model, green bike with red frame/hubs, etc. Sharp looking and low mileage.

Thanks for the input-

If you are mechanically inclined and do buy this bike, there are a lot of V9 foot controls out there for cheap because the V9s came with two sets of foot controls one or two model years and many dealers just sold with whatever was on the bike.

They bolt right up on the right side, and the left side might need a little shimming.

I was going to go this route, but in the end wanted the all black Sato Racing rear sets for the look.

you probably could find some Stone or Special stock foot controls that might bolt on straight away.

Yes, the green tank bikes are beautiful.  I believe that year they actually came with two tanks.  At least the one for sale at my dealer did.

Foot position is important for long distance comfort. The stock rear sets have limited adjustment (3 posies) for the footpeg & more on the toe piece. Aftermarket lowered footpegs are available - the GRiSO lads tend to favour those from Knight Designs, but there are others, search on the grisoghetto - and should easily fit on the main plate. When taking the footpeg off, watch for the o-rings there - awkward should you lose them. I've found that a folding footpeg, at least on the LHS, is useful (to comfortably operate the side-stand with the clodhoppers on the end of the ankles).

Is your bike a European or a North American model? I was under the impression the 2015 models for North America were not the V7ii but the V7?  I've got a 2014 Racer (V7) and have a 34" inseam and also find the pegs to be a bit cramped so I'm curious what you come up with.

Im guessing its a NA bike as Im in the northeast, as a fellow long legged rider, how do you like the bike overall, is the higher grade suspension noticeable, any other thoughts good and bad? Thanks-

I haven't really had a chance to ride it yet as I bought the bike and then winter/snow hit us the next day.

Here is my leg position sitting on a V7 iii racer. I also have pretty long arms

The one I'm sitting on in the picture is a brand new 2019 V7iii.  My 2014 V7 is a bit less cramped than this one for some reason. I think they changed the frame slightly on the newer models.

The one you posted a picture of looks like mine. I"m curious if it's a 2015 V7 ii in North America as I was under the impression the only changes between the 2014 and 2015 were the move to a wet alternator vs dry for the North American bikes and 2016 was the first year for us to get the V7 ii......but you never know with small companies like MG as I'm sure they just send over whatever they have built.

Over here, the V7 II came with the six speed gearbox, re-routed clutch cable to a re-positioned clutch arm, engine canted a little forward (sump parallel with headers) & a few other changes. This one looks to me that it's got the 5 speed gearbox (fill plug on the side rather than the top as in the 6 speed). In practice, not a significant difference, but a tad awkward for some spares, accessories, and such things as only putting 500ml gear oil in a box that wants 1L. De-code the VIN for the year of manufacture and the model, before downloading the manuals. It's only a photo, but it looks tidy.

Next time you sit on it bring a pad.

I'm running Alaskan pads on my bikes to help relax my knee angle.

Of course you lean further forward.

Another way to get an idea of the fit is the website cycle-ergo.    (https://cycle-ergo.com/)

You can even tailor you're leg and arm length on the website calculator that's used.

Those shoes have a massive/thick sole. You may find riding boots are thinner and give more leg room. 1" makes a huge difference.

The picture is a bit deceptive. Those are dress shoes with a thin rubber galosh that makes them appear to have a thick sole on them.  I find my V7 is have more leg room vs the V7 iii that I'm sitting on in the picture.

I can't say about the Racer, but on most of the other models without rearsets the MkI saddle/top of frame is 1.5" closer to the footpegs than the same distance measured on a V7III. For example my MkI Stone vs our V7III Dark.

So in fact the later ones are less cramped, but that might not be true on the rearsets.

The bike you are looking at doesn't even have passenger footpegs.

You can always add a seat from any of the V7s and a passenger footpeg kit if really wanted.
