I don't pay much attention to the bikes for sale by Cycle Garden - west coast prices are high to start with & CG is extreme even in that environment.  I have noticed that most of the CG loops advertised here or on ebay sit around for a year or more before finally disappearing from the listings (sold or just moved to the back of the garage?).  That represents overhead costs that they wouldn't have if they listed their bikes at more reasonable prices & sold them quicker.  On the other hand, it's their shop & they can use whatever business model they want.

I dont know if people are aware when they talk about this and BAT, but these things do sell at these prices. You would be shocked at how many go to Dubai, UAE, Qatar etc.  I have a buddy who does huge 'adventure van' and 4x4 RV conversions.. His rigs easily run $100k+ and he is sending one to the middle east or Russia about monthly.  Moe sells a lot of bikes that way, and he also sells a lot to rich people, studio execs, and celebrities based on his location in SoCal allone.

I don't think you could restore one that nice for $8500....

100% you cant unless you have the skill, time, and equipment to do all your own chrome, powdercoat, etc...

I am working on a loop now (mine will be nicer than this one) and I have all the receipts from the previous owner's work (he put two years in it and it still wasnt running when I got it)-- the receipts total nearly $18K!!!  Of course this is top of the line everything from the Bender harness, new engine internals cylinders-pistons-bearings, Heads rebuilt, stainless or NOS hardware and controls, wheels rear drive and tinwork all went to Cyclegarden for rebuild and polish plus an insane expensive paint job with silk-screened logos etc.
