Best In Category PGC
« on: February 28, 2021, 04:53:57 PM »
Ok I say Partial Guzzi Content here because I don’t know where the answers will take us.
Looking for your best owned and/or ridden bikes in any or all of the categories listed below.

TOURING (as in long slab riding with many miles and days)
COMMUTING (as in daily riders, could be a scooter here too)
DUAL SPORT or ENDURO (not full on motocross but gravel, dirt and maybe simple single track) Is that even a thing, simple single track?
NAKED or STANDARD (just plain fun)
SPORT (may include super sport if you’re so inclined)
ALL AROUND (loose category here)

I’ll go first.
TOURING Triumph Trophy SE 1200 (hands down the most comfortable and feature rich long ride bike)
COMMUTING (Honda NC700X DCT or Manual, great mileage and so well balanced. A light tourer too)
DUAL SPORT or ENDURO (Africa Twin 1000. Big and still heavy but wow, what a bike)
NAKED or STANDARD (Kawasaki ZRX1100, fast and fun)
SPORT (Aprilia Mille. Motor, handling, sound, what a bike)
ALL AROUND (MG V9, Roamer or Bobber, that motor!)

I’d like to play but just to difficult to narrow down from all the great bikes had in at least 3 of the categories.
But I hope other’s opinions will come in as it is an interesting subject.

From what I've owned in the past-

TOURING Moto Guzzi G5 (FB)
COMMUTING G5 again
DUAL SPORT or ENDURO KTM 350 EXC-F, although I had a 1971 Honda XR175 that was a hoot.  But I was 18, so anything was a hoot.
NAKED or STANDARD Moto Guzzi V11 Sport with standard handlebars
SPORT Ducati Multistrada 1200
ALL AROUND BMW R90S
L-720
1973 Eldorado
2003 Yardbird (1100 hydro)
2020 R1250RS

Touring. Another vote for the Triumph SE. We had a 2014 and put 80K miles on it in three years.
Commuting. Honda Reflex Scooter
Dual Sport. Suzuki DR 250.
Standard. Had many, enjoyed them all.
Sport. Honda CBR600.
All around. 2016 V7II

Touring...Norge

Commuting...Triumph Sprint ST 1050

Dual purpose...V85..(but I have owned very few..)

Sport...MV Agusta F4

All ‘round...Triumph Sprint ST 1050
Although I (loosely) nominate the Triumph as best all ‘round, that doesn’t mean I rate it higher than the Norge, because I don’t. The thing that the Triumph was “better” at than the Norge is something I no longer have an interest in.
My point is that your “best” bike may not necessarily be your “favourite” bike.
I don’t think you asked for a “favourite”, but if the shed was on fire and all the above bikes were inside, I would push the Norge out first without hesitation..

Ok, I’ll play as I have been thinking about this recently.  I have owned 24 bikes, half of them Guzzi’s, and a Guzzi takes half of the categories.  But only one non Guzzi makes my list.

TOURING -  2 valve Norge / 2 valve 1200 Sport.  Basically the same bike, the 1200 Sport wins if the roads are on the funner twisty side.
COMMUTING - Suzuki 650 VStrom
DUAL SPORT or ENDURO - Suzuki 650 VStrom
NAKED or STANDARD - V7II
SPORT -  V7II, with honorable mention to the V11 Lemans, but its riding position was just too extreme for me.
ALL AROUND - Suzuki 650 VStrom
Niwot, Colorado
'22 Aprilia Tuareg - Black/Yellow
'16 V7II Stone - Black
Previous Guzzis
'07 Griso, '07 Norge, '03 California SS, '02 California SS, '02 V11 Lemans,  '83 Lemans III, '77 Lemans
