Fonzi’s bike
« on: August 12, 2021, 11:16:30 AM »
Henry Winkler recently revealed that the Triumph he rode as “The Fonze” in Happy Days was the same bike Steve McQueen jumped the fence with in The Great Escape. Fonzi was cooler than I thought.

Henry is STILL great.  Check out the series BARRY on HBO if you haven't yet... amazing show and Winkler is so so great in it.

Ehhhhh , no . The bike that Ekins jumped the fence with was a 1961 TR6 , a 650 swingarm model . The Fonzi bike was an older TR5 500 in a rigid frame . Both were supplied by Bud Ekins , but aren't the same bike , although considering Winkler knows less about motorbikes than I do about heart surgery , it isn't surprising he is confused .

On further research - you’re right.

Winkler never actually rode the bike because he never learned how to ride one. The scenes of him "riding" is just Hollywood action...

In fact Winkler is terrified of motorcycles. "Barry" is a hoot.
