Attempted Theft Left '16 V7 II "Totalled" by Insurance. Re-Key?

Long story short, someone tried to steal my 2016 Moto Guzzi V7 II from my workplace. They failed, but in their anger/rage, they went to town on messing up my ride. Insurance called it, and deemed it a total loss. Life goes on.

I was offered to buy the Motorcycle back, ~$800. I can work my way through the damage, but the thing I absolutely must get is a new lock set.

Is this relatively easy to swap out? Do I need to have someone work on the ECU to accept the key?

I _Know_ parting out the bike would be more $$ my way, but I don't have a garage to store and/or want to deal with shipping parts all over.

The lock set is an easy fix, and the set is (or used to be) not very much more than the lock alone. I don't believe there is anything electronic in the key, so the ECU is not involved. It is just a key. Key blanks are expensive from Guzzi, but pretty, and cheap from locksmiths. (ILCO X270 TMC1)

Sorry to hear that someone messed up your ride.  You sure that wasn't their intent?  I mean who steals a V7?

I am not surprised that violence was done to the bike though based on your location and everything the news has been showing us.

I once bought a bike back and the insurance company didn't ask for the title first and then didn't tell the DMV that it was totaled so I still had a clean title.. I really made out like a highway robber that time.

 Are guzzis typically more armored than most bikes ignitions or was the perp just that much dumberer?

My 2010 Café classic was a gorgeous motorcycle, but my 2018 V7III is a better motorcycle by leaps and bounds.

Good point. I've only met one guy who lamented the passing of the heron head and he was the proud owner of a Moto Morini 500 .
