NGC, movie 1917 for movie buffs
« on: August 24, 2021, 01:08:43 PM »
Just saw "1917" at home on DVD.  WWI movie is a couple of years old. Great acting & dialogue though the story line seems to have a huge hole in it. Anyway, the way it is shot is simply amazing.  The bigger the screen the better it will be. Be sure to watch the documentary clips on how it was made.

Agreed.  the way that movie was shot is unlike any other I've ever seen.  Like one continuous shot with no breaks.  Really interesting, and the movie was good, too.

Excellent movie, its fun looking for the “points” where the cuts are.  Check out the Alejandro Inarritu movie Birdman for a similar technique, very different movie though.

If you have an interest in WWI, this documentary is not to be missed:

The level of detail is extraordinary.  It consists of old, silent, black and white films that have been colorized and voices have been added.  The director sent people to the areas in question to find the exact shades of grass needed.  Lip readers were used to discover the speech.  Shoulder badges were identified to approximate the accents needed for the voices.

Extraordinary.  It's currently on Netflix.  Youtube trailer:
