I've probably told this story before, but here it is anyway. When I was 14 my dad came home one Saturday lunchtime with a Moto Guzzi Zigolo. He told me that when I was 16 it would be mine. He sold it when I was 15 and bought a NSU Quickly, which I quickly rejected. Over the years that followed he gave me a Norton Electra and a Velocette MSS, but I always told him that he owed me a Guzzi, and when he passed on I used some of the money left to me to buy a V7.
He kept the Quickly for many years. I moved away but when I came back during university breaks I started to enjoy riding the Quickly into town. I must have been in my 50s or possibly even 60s when he sold it. Had I known I'd have bought it from him myself, as I now think it would be a great little runaround for an old man.

My Mother used to have one similar to that in fact it's still in the family, they are an amazing little scoot.
I used the motor and gearbox out of another to make a mini bike that has been passed down through the generations.

When I was at uni 150 years ago
we had one as our emergency hack for when our usual transport went awol. One of the guys "worked" on it with a bit of judicious grinding of ports etc. It had one speed, wide open, with the needle on the stop. A guy clocked me at "over 50mph"
. It just screamed, and just kept on screaming. It was unburstable. Amazing machine.
