NGC. Snow blowing

Had our first real snow in many years last night. got a good 5". Light and packable snow. Good for making snow forts and snow men. Being an old beat up guy, I had a small electric snow blower tucked away for just in case. I was in an energetic mood and got it out to play this morning. Its an 18" Sno Joe. See pics below. It did a good job on our 80' of driveway. Very glad that power tools exist for us old men who still want to get jobs done. I would say it does a great job on up to 4" of snow. Thicker than that and you are really challenging it. Best to take it in nibbles so you keep the blade momentum up. And remember to spray it down inside with plenty of WD40 to keep it from clogging! I relearned that lesson today. ;-)

I've been using one for about 10 years, first in GA now in IA. It does a great job. If I know we are going to get dumped on I go out about every 3-4 inches of snowfall. It will go through 2 foot drifts though, slowly, but will do it. I love having electric!

Around here we call those salad shooters. Glad it worked for you though. We had a couple of big snowfalls that required use of a snowblower but the past few days we just got a dusting, inch or less of dry snow. My leaf blower makes quick work of that stuff.

Years ago I travelled to Buffalo, from NJ, often. Twice I was awarded sweat shirts with 'I survived the winter of ----'. Pedestrian tunnels every where in down town.
Separate winters. Memory is shot. Could have been betwixt '67 & '82. One year I caught up to a NJ HS friend who drove his 10 wheeler up to plow snow.
   Is the Anchor Bar still standing? The only real 'Buffalo Wings'.  Good folk every where.   R3~

Here's my snow removal machine. It's a 1980 Cub Cadet 782 with a a 45 inch 2 stage blower. I found the cab on ebay for 175.00. I have a small camp heater in the cab. I bought the tractor years ago for mowing then bought the other accessories piece by piece. I have about 2500.00 in everything. I hate to think what it would cost to replace it with today's equipment.

Cub Cadet! 2001 2185 with a 42" 303 blower. A cab would be nice for those days when the wind just blows the wrong way. Got an inch last night. Supposed to get 1-3" Friday, then 5-8" Saturday.

I have a John Deere 826 walk behind snowblower.  It is on its 43rd winter.  Still has the original spark plug.

400+ foot of driveway.
First couple of years I froze from  hours with a little plow on a craftsman riding mower.
Then I got an old cub cadet with a snow blower and plastic cab. That was great, but the dirt and gravel destroyed the blower after a few years.
Then I started buying 4 wheel drive vehicles, the first was a jeep comanche. Bought a Snow bear plow. Plow snobs don't have anything good to say about that little plow, but they work great. It is good to drive around  moving the snow and get a little payback out of my Jeep Wrangler.

We got hit by a second snow storm last night! Just as the first one was almost done melting away. Just 3" this time. It was a sticky icy mess that weighed down the trees. But the ground was warm enough that none of it laid on the roads. Nothing to shovel today. Just need to sweep the cars off.
