Short legs

Us short legged riders are always having to discover new and innovative ways to ride comfortably.  Many times, we will lower the bike, and that is that - but don't forget to shorten the side stand, otherwise it'll stand up too straight.  This may not always be an issue, but then a flat tire may stand it up so straight that it simply falls over.

Personally, I like the hacksaw/welder method.   






We have a drawer full of these cut-offs.  Maybe we can start a collection







Here's the prototype - checking the fit.  After ya get finished, make sure to get some of the two-dollar spray paint for a touch-up.

The earlier Himalayans that came here needed the side stands shortened without being lowered. I had to crank the preload up, and pull up on the bike when parked on level ground.  At the side of the road, game over.  Almost like the were designed for wrong side of the road countries.   LOL!

One of the things I really like about the Tenere 700 is the availability of aftermarket parts to help the bike "fit" the rider. Camel ADV has some really quality products that fit perfectly!   https://camel-adv.com/ 

I couldn't not have a "camel toe" sidestand with my 22MM lowering kit and one finger clutch kit

I will need to do that this spring. I have no welder, so it's a trip to the muffler shop and 25 bucks.

Too bad I’m not a welder. My 2017 Stone stands too vertical for me.

There appears to be plenty of vendors out there to help you shorten the suspension, but none address the sidestand.

Lowered about an inch and a quarter.  Cut an inch and a half or two off of the side stand

I was thinking of that.  Darren offered to let me ride his 700 and I declined.  Just too tall.  I mean, I'd ride otherwise but it was new.   

OTOH, my brother lowered his Beemer K1600 full-on tourer.  I'd ridden it before he lowered it (with new kickstand), changed the bars, new seat with a rider's seat back rest on it.  I was very cramped to turn it and sit on it, especially at low speeds, it really freaked me out.  It also has a very "jumpy" throttle.  Altogether, it felt too strange and awkward like no bike I had ever ridden.   He says it fits him for 600 mile days- power to him for sure.

I was at a Vulcan Demo ride and one of the marketing ladies had boots like that so she could balance the big 1700s.  The problem was when the weight got over a little to far for her and down she went with her leg stuck under the bike.  Fortunately it was at the parking lot for the start of the rides so there were plenty to lift the bike off her and pull her out.  LOL!

Been there, done that, during the long quest to find a bike She Who Must be Obeyed would be happy with.  This took a fair bit of time and effort.  And I'm still suffering from PRHASD -- Post Ride Height Adjustment Stress Disorder.  Though that smile on her face when she rolls her bike out of the garage makes it all worth it
