RVParkReviews lithium battery
« on: February 19, 2022, 07:44:25 PM »
I’m up grading my toy hauler to lithium battery.  It’s not that simple, lead acid battery charge at 13.5 well lithium charge at 14.5 volts.  13.5 only charges a lithium to 80%(you have wasted your money on lithium battery), so you must install a 14.5 charge controller,  then that truck that pull that trailer with it charges at @ 13.5 and just 2 amp. you now look at a DC to DC charge controller.  Money money.Rudy

A lithium battery more less discages a lot more, a lead only discharges to 50%. Weigh wise a lithium weighs half a much, and you should get 5000 charges discharges from a lithium battery life.  No gases from the battery( instal them in side the trail if wish). and mount them any way even up side down.Rudy

I didn’t buy Balt born battery’s which a lot of people buy.  But I got 2, 100 amp hour for $640 dollars then lithium charge controller is about $200 then mis wiring. I bought 2 200watt solerpanels and a 600 watt 12 DC to 120 volt, just to run led lites, frig.,and tv, I’m going to up grad my soler when I get everything going.  My soler system is stand alone, independent from the trailer except 12 volt dc charging.  Going to make a sewiced plug ( 2 male plugs one on each end). Then just plug one end to ac converter other into a 120 volt plug in trailer. When I have no out ac power. You got 120 volt thru out the trailer(no elect. Hot water) about $1200 give or take.  Not going to get the DC to DC controller yet.  Will take the low charges from the truck for now and use the soler or gen to charge my lithium battery to 100%Rudy

Soon I hope got it all layered out on plywood.  Had a small set back.  Got progressive 60 amp lithium charge control ( wrong) for RV use no bigger than 45 amp. Sending one back, order the smaller one.  To big one could smoky RV charging wiring.  Mounting my soler panel on roof haven’t decided which to use.  Unistrut or direct mounting brackets( got both) have not decided cut hole in roof or come thru refrigerator vent. The whole picture is getting a little clearer study and do, xl model so to peak.  This time and one will make to two for me time building Avery small soler system.Rudy

I know the lithium batteries in our electronics life a longer life if charged to 80 percent instead of 100 percent.

LOTSS$$$$$  Just for the battery.  Typical 12V unit is $500+/ea.  Have no idea what twin 6v might cost.

OTOH, you can get an 3-3.5K inverter generator  for for $7-800.  Honda's inverter gens used to be over $2k.

I got a 3500 + 500 surge watt Yamaha generator . It’s rated lower noise than the Honda gen..  will keep in back of truck.  Going install water proof plug on the tung of the trailer so can run the ac going down road.  So can get in trailer and be cool while drinking first beer of a long day. Rudy

So with the generator, you still want solar and Li Batt?

An RV battery will run everything but the air conditioner or Microwave for a weekend.  The inverter gens are pretty quiet.  Many places allow gens during the day to charge batteries.

But a solar rig + Li battery would pretty nice for sure.   :thumb:

Since I was searching this Rudy, I just got an ad on my phone feed. Renogy offers a 200amphr 12v Li battery for $1000.  It has an available Bluetooth monitor with phone App, dual processors with multi charging functions.

I'll be interested in what you get.  I have two 6v golf cart batteries that have been boiled too many times and are the end of their life after 10 years.
