NGC - What model little Honda is this?
« on: February 28, 2022, 08:12:39 AM »

This is the only pic I have, owner say's it's a dual-range. Looks mighty straight and clean, owner says the centrifugal advance isn't working right and it has limited speed (maybe he just doesn't realize it's in low range?), but he wants $1k for it. He found it in a neighbor's shed.

I KNOW these little Hondas are collectible, but his price seems a little high, 'specially since I don't know what it is.

Looks like a CT110, or as our fellow Aussies lovingly nickname the Postie due to their use by the Postal Service.

Looks like the model that Huzo rode across Australia a few months back.

Do not hesitate to buy it. Very simple and bulletproof. One in that condition will only appreciate if you want to flip it. My $.02

The Honda CTs have a dual range transmission. There's a lever on the left side of the case that is used to select low or high range. The one pictured has the optional passenger seat.

Here's a link to the CT90 forum: http://www.hondatrail90.hondagl.com/

What are the visual differences between the CT90 and CT110? Were both considered Posties?

So there's a center cover that's missing in the pic, I'll have to ask if he has all the plastic.

Regarding his claims about the ignition advance, it's a pretty simple ignition system, isn't it?

Agreed, looks like Ct90 from the tail light.   Ct110 have a different tail light and don’t have the dual rang gears, at least mine doesn’t.

Points and condenser  it's easy  to do and everything is still available from Honda and Ebay  Points plate on these is in the head behind the cam cover.

Reading a bit about this model, it appears to be a pre-'72 because it doesn't have turn signals, but post-'69(?) since it doesn't have leading-link front end.

It didn't immediately LOOK like the step-thru that we had back when I was riding trails in MI, but I see that our model back then must've been a '66-ish, because ours had the white plastic knee-guards. It said "trail" on it, so we BEAT that thing as 14-15 yr-olds, and what finally failed was the auto clutch, NOT the spindly-looking leading-link front end. I know we got air on that thing quite a bit, because I think I also had my new CR125 at the time, so we rode the 90 over the same whoops and jumps. Amazing that it held up.

These bikes are a BLAST to ride! Additionally, they are the perfect size for hanging on a motorhome or travel van so one can go exploring economically while the gas-guzzler stays parked at camp  :thumb:

I started riding them in 1978 when they were CT 90’s.
They went to 110’s around 1981 and I delivered mail on them until 2013. Over the journey, they evolved into a stronger unit with larger brakes, stronger spokes, a clutch that would do 25,000 postie km versus 5 or 6 for the original 90’s.
They later ones got much better forks and a general tart up with every iteration.
They just got better and better.
The one I took around Oz is a 2012...(I think..).

as previous.  It looks like a Trail 90 with dual range gearing. They've been crazy dollars lately pushing $3k- not that I understand that.

Ari Henning of Revzilla rode up the Dalton Highway from Anchorage Alaska to Point Barrow on one while his pal Zack Courts rode the newer Trail 110.  The video of their trip is pretty awesome.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Geb_QFxp_hs&t=219s

Also the 90’s had the speedo in the headlight shell. The 110 speedo is a stand alone unit.
