V7Racer to V7 Special exhaust swap?
« on: February 13, 2022, 02:49:39 PM »
Hi Guzzi Pilots!

Is it possible to swap the stock exhaust from a V7 II Racer to a V7II Special? Will the headers and muffle bolt right in, or perhaps just the headers because of the differing foot peg mounts?

Thanks.

The Racer mufflers point higher. You will need to change the pillion footpeg bracket. Check the Racer bracket - the fancy one with holes, or make up one similar from plate - there's some interesting bends there, or use the pillion footpeg brackets from the Nevada - they are the right size. You could whip up a temporary fix with threaded rod & helm joints (aka rose joints).

You need to know if they are both heron head. The III  is most likely a hemi and not the same.

The OP mentions V7II Racer and V7II Special. Both are V7II, and therefore the same engine, frame, etc.

Thanks for the comments.

Yes, this would be a swap within the V7II family.

Here's why I'm asking: I spotted a local ebayl listing for large diameter Agostini headers that came off a Racer. Before buying them, I just want to make sure that they will line up with the Mistral slip ons I now have on, which are joined to the stock Special headers. So in short, I would be replacing the stock Special headers with the Agostini headers that came off a Racer.

Sorry I missed this earlier.
I have Agostini headers on both V7's. Good. I think you'll find the headers are the same for the Racer & the Special. It's the Racer mufflers that point upwards.. If you keep the last couple of sections of the headers loose, you should be able to jiggle the Mistral's into position.

Do what you have to do to get those headers to work. It's worth it.

If you get them, I found it best to mount the manifold section of the headers (firmly) first. Then slide the rest on. Keep the other sections loose so you can line up the mufflers with the hangers.

Thanks Malik, just saw your post. Unfortunately I missed out on those headers as I wasn't sure about the fitment and someone else snatched them. But what you posted will help me be clearer and more decisive next time around.

Good luck. They don't seem to come up often on the secondhand hand mar.ket. New, the only one I've found that handles them is AF1 Racing, who seem to have an in with the factory.
