More oysters and a deep forest ride

The oyster food truck was at my local pub yesterday. They wanted $3 per oyster! $36 for a dozen on the half shell. Apparently they were good, but instead I returned to my favorite oyster beach on the west shores of Hood Canal here in Washington today. It was a good low tide and there were millions of them. I ate probably 8 oysters on the beach and then collected maybe twice that in a plastic bag to take home. Will have a few more raw this evening and make po boys for dinner.

Temps were in the mid 40s, cloudy skies, a few drops of rain on the way home, but I bundled up and enjoyed my 2 1/2 hours of round trip riding. Had the Norge's heated grips on high. It's the first day of spring. Forsythia, daffodils, cherry trees, hyacinths and some azaleas are blooming. Went up the Dosewallips river on the way home and took a few pics of the river.

My pal John who also rides a Norge when not on his V7 plan to do this ride again on Tuesday (Poulsbo to Brinnon and back). Supoosed to be 60 degrees that day with an even lower tide around 2:45. We'll probably leave around 1 or 1:30. If anyone's in the area and wants to join us, fee free.

I imagine is one supposed to have a fishing license.

Fresh off the beach, harvested myself, is the best way. Cold and salty!

I’ll match up my hometown Wellfleets against anyone’s. Three of us together open 15,000 oysters in a weekend at a booth in the oyster festival. That said, I would love to ride the Northwest and do some sampling.  Our roads here are the worst - short, straight, flat, sandy and full of tourists and very old drivers

That’s what I was wondering. Can’t just harvest the land without lining someone’s pocket.

Not sure if you need a license for harvesting small numbers of oysters at that beach. It's a state beach, as you need a Washington Discovery pass to park there. I have one but didn't have it with me. No budget for enforcement of such things these days. There were no signs relating to shellfish harvesting. I did see one group of maybe 6 other people who were eating oysters off the beach and having a fine time. I know of another beach with a nicer variety of oysters in a huge bed closer to my house that has a sign saying you can eat oysters right there, but you can't take them away, and you have to leave the shells.

My po boys were very good. So good I ate 4 of them!
