Dellorto PHBH 30 Replacements
« on: May 09, 2022, 11:02:36 AM »
Stein Dinse advertises Dellorto PHBH 30 carbs for replacements to VHB flat slides but they have been showing no stock for ages.

Does anyone know what the needle, atomizer, main nan pilot jets are that came with the Dellorto PHBH 30 carbs from Stein Dinse?

I can get the carbs from Wolfgang Haerter in Canada but I need to know what parts to order

Thanks
Jim

Hey Jim,  I don't have it handy, but iiirc, in guzziology, did Dave Richardson not have pages in the carb fueling section listing the various jets & atomizers used in most of the different carb set ups, ie euro vs world specs?

Edit,  I looked it up in guzziology and in chapter 7-60 & 7-61 (in my edition) he's got most of the carb specs (jets, needles, slides, screws etc) listed according to various models and different markets.

if you can't confirm it,, give me the model bike they're going on and if it's in my edition I can give you the info he's listed

My guzziology happens to be open to the exact page (7-23 & 7-24) for the same reason.  He recommends needle k-23' idle jet #50, main jet holder #264 and main jet #125.    I can send fuzz I part numbers if needed.

Thanks fellas!!!

I never even thought to look in Guzziology, this helps a lot, Wolfgang can get ne the carbs, boots and clamps, hopefully my Eldorado will idle much better after a carb swap.

Here's a jetting table for most guzzis. Can't remember where I got it, but it should be a good starting point

That is interesting, thanks!

nothing for an Eldorado, 850T or T3, I see the USA Convert has the VHB carbs but the European have PHF 30 carbs, The Stein Dinse kits are PHBH and they appear to be specified on the small block Guzzi's on the list you posted.

Carbs, why are there so many choices??

I will see what Wolfgang comes up with, he is going to talk to Stein Dinse for me and try and find out what they had for components in their kits.

I checked my Guzziology and I see the referance is for PHF 30 carbs, the Stien Dinse carbs are PHBH 30 carbs. I don't know the differences between a PHF and PHBH carb.

The PHBH is basically a PHF without the accelerator pump. There were PHBHs that had (slide needle actuated) accelerator pumps like the VHB CD/CS though, they were used on some V65s.

Yep V65 Lario had pumps, V65 sp etc not
I use the no pump ones on my Lario and the Lario ones on my (750cc ) V700
I did tune them to suit but very subtly, straight off Chuck’s Lario they worked brilliantly on the V700, as close to an ambo as doesn’t matter except I run the 5c hole whisper mufflers

Could be good source for these carbs, plenty of low mileage Larios lurking about
I used modified T3 etc manifolds and V65 rubbers
250 miles on std 20 litre tank, ridden as it should be, perfect carburation

For the Amal style PWK carbs or the PHBH. Do you need a special throttle cable when you use the Tommaselli 2C?

I installed the Stein PHBH kit to replace my old V-series carbs on my T3. The PHBH is very familiar from the Vespa tuning scene, all the bits are readily available.

I did have to modify my throttle cables. The PHBH required more "inner" cable at the slide end to be exposed from the outer . I used a Dremel with the cutting wheel to very, very carefully cut off a section of outer.

The guys at MG Cycle told me that that's the reason they don't sell the Stein PHBH kit -- there is no standard Guzzi throttle cable to will work without modification.

That said, the modification wasn't *that* hard.

Did you find the new carbs from Stein Dinse to be plug and play?
Any chance you know what needle, atomizer, main and pilot jet are installed in the carbs?

I too have modified cables like you note.

I have these modified manifolds (they originally had flanges for Amals) that would be handy for a carb conversion.

Thanks Charlie, I will see what Wolfgang Haerter comes up with, he is trying to get the component specs out of Stein Dinse for the round slide Dellorto replacement's (not in stock), failing that, Wolfgang says he has some VHB bodies in excellent shape that I can try out with my batch of new internals. Even with new slides in my VHB 29's I get air leaks and the idle climbs at the lights.
