Anyone know how the rear light assembly works on a V7?
« on: June 17, 2022, 08:24:45 PM »
I had a tip over incident on my V7 Classic and sheared off the front and rear turn signals on the left side. Got replacements from Mark at Guzzi classics and his big haul of scrapped V7s. The front was easy enough to swap out (I'm trying to use the full wire and plastic connector rather than cut and splice). But the rear ... The connector is buried in what appears to be a void created between two layers of the rear fender and access appears to be via removal of the plastic "chrome" pod that houses the brake and plate light. But that housing/pod is fastened by three studs with rubber "nuts"/grommets that I was hesitant to force too hard as I was concerned about reassembly. I'm just trying to access the plastic connector on the end of the turn signal wire, but it is nowhere in sight. The photo shows (hopefully) the hike that the wires disappear into, and, if you look closely, the three threaded studs with the rubber "nuts". Anyone replaced the turn signal without resorting to cutting the wires? Thanks

The 2 colored blue wires, light & dark go to turn signal. No plug like tail light. You have to take apart signal lens, refractor & bulb sockets to plug in the different one.

Ahhhh, so the front signal has the plastic connector, but for the rear, just splice into the wires you mention? I was about to try removing the inner fender/liner to try to gain access to more of the wiring in hopes of finding the connectors.....

They connect in turn signal, unplug & feed through stem.

Thanks for your replies, but I don't understand--you say they connect in the turn signal-- on my V7 the wires coming from the signal housing are in a sheath that feeds through the signal base and then through the side of the taillight housing. At that point, the sheathing stops and I can see the two blue wires (different shades of blue) but then they disappear into heat shrink tubing with other wires and the whole bundle goes down into a hole leading to the void between the fender and the fender liner. This photo shows most of this:

But there is no connector in sight. The replacenent signal has sheathed wires that terminate in a female connector as shown here:

I was hoping to find a male connector and thought it might be in the void between the fender and the fender liner.

You have to take signal apart for the connectors, spade connectors plug on to bulb socket, the other end is up in battery box somewhere.

I pulled mine apart this morning, the two blue wires pass through the tail-light and plug onto the blinker fitting,
Yours may be torn off of course in which case you could extend them in the tail-light housing.
I will take a picture.

OK, got it this time (I'm slow ...). All done, working fine! Thanks for your help.
