new loop exhaust

So I ended up biting the bullet and getting new "big hole" cigar mufflers. did not want to wait for the armour pipes to be made and a little worried about fitment issues i was told about. I found a website in Italy that someone posted in a Guzzi forum at some point. lucky for me the euro is down to basically 1:1.

I also sprung for new headpipes. had to get a crossover and clamps since it had some old dunstall British mufflers when i bought it.

the finish is great, the mufflers are much heavier than what was installed. I noticed the outlet did not have these 4 slots in them like others I've seen. same IGM numbers printed, maybe they decided to stop that part in manufacturing. they are definitely the large hole at 37mm.

I ended up having to chop 23mm off the ends of the headpipes. when trying to install the mufflers the headpipes would bottom out on the crossover outlet before the mufflers got to the mounts. cross over install went pretty smooth. one side slipped in either than the other.

head pipes were a little loose of a fit in the mufflers. had to clamped them down a bit to get them settled. had a slight issue with the gaps matching between the left and right. ended up getting it down from 18mm down to 8mm which now is very hard to notice at all. (using the rear tire as a measuring point)

previous to the new exhaust I bought the locking style exhaust nuts. finally installed them with these new pipes. I hope it works out. I had a hyper-pro shock preload adjusting tool that fit the new exhaust nuts perfectly!

I coated the inside of the headpipes with 2000f exhaust paint in hopes to keep the bluing down. we will see what happens. so far I've only made a few runs down my 1/3 mile street. trying to bake the paint on before burning it off. I wiped the whole exhaust down with Windex then rubbing alcohol before the first start up.

the sound is a little louder than what I expected but it sounds great compared to those old hollow mufflers. idle sound is amazing, deep and pronounced. the crossover pipe definitely changes the sound. I'm hoping it will help with some more low and mid range torque that I may have lost with the crappy mufflers.

along with the solo seat and new stock civilian handlebars the bike looks great compared to when I first purchased it. I am a little disappointed in the solo seat's foam but I can change that down the road.

I have big hole mufflers on my Eldo, I don't know if they're oem or not, I got the bike from the original owner and mufflers were not on his lifetime list of maintenance performed and parts replaced list.  They're definitely louder than my friends Eldo with small hole mufflers. I'm satisfied with the sound and performance.  I think my next major expense on that bike will either be a solo saddle with springs or new shocks.  I replaced the oe shocks with a pair of brand X for about $80 and they feel like a hard tail.  Your shocks look like OE.  Did you rebuild your shocks or are they aftermarket?

thanks on the compliment. these are definetly louder than i expected but its not bad. it runs SOOO much better with them. i do have oem shocks. im a heavy guy. i have them on the max setting and they actually work well. i bought upgraded front springs but still waiting for them.

Thanks for the info.  I replaced my original front fork springs with Stucci "improved " springs from MG Cycle and I'm satisfied with their performance compared to the original 50yo ones.
