Relay Substitution
« on: February 12, 2023, 10:03:39 PM »
Working a start issue. 2006 Breva 1100.
This is the starter relay from MGCycle:
https://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=37_153&products_id=2978

Does anyone know of an aftermarket substitute that might be found locally?

Just based on the picture and reading it's a Mitsuba RC-2208 relay, and then an internet search, looks like Honda and Kawasaki uses them, so maybe a Honda or Kawasaki motorcycle dealership.

I got a set of five from Amazon delivered in two days. Didn’t fix my problem tho. LOL.

Why is the main Fuel injector relay different from the aux FI relay and the other 3 relays?

Looks like any 12v 30a 4-pin relay that any auto parts store will have will work. A couple of male and female spade connectors to make adapters, a few short pieces of shrink tubing and your all set. Or wait 2 days and have 5 plug-n-play versions delivered.

When I worked at NAPA we had a book with all kinds of relays in it with all the specs and pictures of each. It was very handy to help in situations like this when we didn't have the "correct" one in stock but could come up with a compatible one. I worked with 30 plus year parts guy. He knew everything but there are very few of these guys in the business anymore.

The one at the top of the ad.
Four parallel spade connectors.
Body includes a plastic locking tang to keep it into the receiver socket.

Meanwhile, other thread, looking a lot like a premature battery failure and nothing to do with the relays.

This. My auto electric shop had one that was a bit small in stock, 4 pin generic. Got me going. He had the 4 pin generic of the correct amperage for me the next day. I carry spares now....

He did make the comment that the parallel array is not as common as they used to be, so it might pay to carry a spare.
