4ls Brake Cable

Has anybody had success soldering/clamping a ferrule nipple onto a clutch/brake cable? Where did you source the parts?
All I see are big kits for around $200 and I don’t need all that.
Not interested in the screw together type.
My relatively new-ish brake cable on the right is a solid 1/2” too long. I could shorten it closer to an inch and it would be fine.
Thanks for any help

I've used a 44 (I think) cartridge case as a solder pot. Cable through the nipple, fray the ends out. Heat the solder pot with a torch, acid flux on the nipple assembly, dip it into the pot. Let it cool, and Bob's you mother's brother.

@Steve, I did see those. I was worried about the brass nipple on the steel ferrule….? Maybe a rule I invented in my head.
@ Chuck, I’ve drilled holes in wood similarly to your casing cauldron. I, uh was not successful. Maybe I’ll try again. Trying not to cobble this old girl too much… plus brakes I use a bit.

Try Flanders too. I got ends from them or another place in CA like it.

0u should have no trouble soldering any of the brass nipples from Dimecity cycles
tin the cable with a little acid core solder, then you can switch to rosin core
I have been using the screw type nipples with good results, I doubt you even need to sweat these cable, I don't believe they are the sweat type.

I have a small assortment of fittings and may have what you need. PM me if you'd like.

@ Roy, I have rosin core around here. Acid core not so much. I’ll have to do some research.
@ Antietam, I’ll send a PM.
You guys are awesome

Like Steve said, Flanders is a good source for all kinds of cable making parts.

I was nervous about buying from a bicycle supplier, but good to know.
Antietam reached out and we may have the correct parts heading this way.
Thanks all!

Antietam to the rescue! He sent me some fittings and i soldered them on and my brakes appear to be timed a heck of a lot better!
Gave it a very hard squeeze and it seems to be plenty sturdy
