New owner of a 22 VT85TT and need to install a fuse block under the seat to add some electronics.  On past bikes I have always posi tapped the relay wire from the fuse block to a switched, hot wire like the tail light.  Can someone identify for me a good wire to tap under the seat?

Also, I have been advised to use the USB plug next to the battery as a good source for power, but I don’t understand exactly how to use that plug to tap my fuse block relay wire into.  Is there an adapter of some sort that would just plug into it!  Could I just use a posi tap splicer and splice into the hot wire feeding that plug?

In short…. How exactly do I get a single relay wire into that plug to power the relay wire?

……or should I just tap into the tail light wire…..?

Thanks in advance

Remove the tank and you’ll see a sort of triangular plastic panel near the steering stem on the right hand side.
You can see it without removing the tank, but it’s hard to get it off,
Under there is the wire to fire up the GPS (if fitted).
I did not know that initially, so I just jumped into the tail light wire as you mention.

There is a 2 pin socket under the seat on the right hand side of the tray that is for a USB accessory. One of those pins is a switched live, I can't remember which pin so test it first. It's number 1 in the rather poor image I've attached.
HTH.

Thank you sir!  Ok, so I plan to use this socket and have sourced the other half of the plug that plugs into it from Amazon.

So when I plug my Amazon half of the plug into the bike plug, I now have a positive and a negative wire coming out of my Amazon plug to tap into.  My relay wire to my fuse block is a single wire….. So how exactly do I connect the relay wire to the two wires coming out of the plug?

Do I crimp, solder the relay wire to the positive wire from the plug and tape up the negative wire?  Or something else?

Got to be a joker…..he jus do what he please!

You only need to use the live feed. The negative can be mounted to any frame bolt or the battery negative. Try to borrow the correct crimp tool and only use the live feed, just leave the other one blank. There should be pins and blanking plugs in the kit you have bought. Use one pin and one blanking plug and you are good to go.

Thank You!  What I bought from Amazon was 5 complete male/female 2 pin plugs, not a kit with parts.

So let me rephrase what you said to see if I have it right.

When I plug my Amazon plug into the bike plug, my Amazon plug will have a positive and negative wire extending out of it.  I am going to crimp a butt connector and shrink wrap the positive Amazon plug wire to the fuse block relay wire and then take the Amazon plug negative wire and attach it to a frame bolt.

Do I have that all correct?

Another inmate over at ADV, told me, instead of connecting the neg wire to a frame bolt, I could just tape it up, out of the way.  ???  What do you think?  I want to do this once and do it right.

Thanks in advance!

No, do not connect the negative from the plug to a frame bolt. Connect the negative from the fuse box to a frame bolt. The negative from the socket is not required. Fold it over, shrink wrap it and tuck it out of the way .

Ok that makes sense.  I will hook up the FZ1 Fuze Block positive to the positive battery terminal and the negative FZ1 to the negative post on the battery as I always have.

I understand completely now!

Thank You!

The Amazon connectors have the red and black wires reversed from how the bike is wired.  You will need to remove the pins and swap them.  It's not hard to swap the pins but does require a little finesse.

I use the USB two pin connector as a switch for my Eastern Beaver relay block.

Well that sucks….

Amazon has about 50 different sellers of that pin.  I have a pack of 5 coming tomorrow…..

How do I determine if the ones I bought are reversed?  And more importantly how do I know it is set up properly?  Volt meter…..or something simpler.

I miss the old days of just tapping a tail light wire……

Plug the Amazon cable into the under seat connector.  With the switch on, check the voltage with a volt meter on the two wires (Red and Black).  It's possible that whoever made yours is different from mine, but I would check it before assuming it's correct.

Also to remove the pin you will need to push a smaller jewelers style screw driver or a push pin or tack just above the pin on the connector side (not the wire side) to release the pin.
