for anyone wanting to swap to an alternator on a loop

Having previously tried some of the methods on thisoldtractor and found them less than satisfactory, I then came across this from japan.... gonna give it a go, looks like a better solution than fixing the alternator from below, which involves cutting the beautiful cover.

Just passing it on, in case someone's ever in the same boat. will report back once I know if it survives a few thousand miles

Looks nice. Does it still bolt to the same threads in the block as the stock generator? Isn’t that the weak spot in that the threads can wear out/strip?

Whn I converted my Loop to an alternator I bought a alternator for a Suzuki Samurai and made a mount out of 1/2" box tube and some small piece of plate steel. I also did the standard and installed studs in the top of the engine to eliminate stripping out the the threads. No other modifications were needed.

All in was around $100 in parts and material.

?? The Ritmo Serano bracket bolts to the u-channel of the frame? Good luck with that. I've seen that done and the u-channel cracked from the alternator wobbling to and fro.

"Fixing the alternator from below" does not require any cutting of the belt cover if it's done correctly! This bracket for instance, tucks the alternator down against the engine nicely and requires no alteration to the belt cover. It works very well - I've installed six and have yet to have any of them fail (other than the Chinese ND alternator copies stopped working).

Looks like the same cute little Nippon-Denso alternator that Ural used to replace the original Russian unit that kept blowing up and taking out the timing gears.

Works great. Good output. Trouble free. Regulator built in so very simple hookup. Lasts forever.

Does scrambler cycle still sell the alternator kit, or did that go to crusty cycles with the other Guzzi  parts  inventory?

Scrambler Cycle still sells the kit (minus alternator) as shown in the link I posted.
