Intermediate Shaft Radial Bearing?
« on: June 21, 2023, 06:46:38 AM »
This Mille GT Gearbox again confuses me.  Dont loads of boes but cant for the life of me remember the correct sequence of the intermediatte Shft radial Bearing.

Im sure this sequence came out  (From Rear cover toward Engine).

  Small Thick>Large Thin>Bearing>large thin>Large Thick

Enclosed the Parts diagram which doesnt even show the large Thick. Something tells me the Small thick was updated with large thick. Not sure why this box has both??  is this correct?

I believe you are calling the bearing races 'large thin'. Those are all number 16.
Then you have a single thick shim. You need to measure the case to see which shim size goes in. Never seen one with two shim, but you could I guess.

I would put ONLY that shaft in the case, built up with the shims that you believe are correct, and no gasket on the cover. Make sure you can spin that shaft and it is not too loose.

Yes,  the thin shims are the races,  i can see where they go in from the wear marks.

Im also not convinced on the two shims,  ive only ever seen boxes with the large thick single shim.

I'll try it.

And if I recall, the smaller thicker shim actually rides against the gear cluster. I believe the larger diameter race will not go all of the way down into the gear and rest on it as it should. I think the drawing is confusing.

But then it has been a few years since I worked on them, so.......
