So my first long ride on the V7. 6 hours in the saddle and its clear. Something has got to give.
My old arse just can't take this kind of abuse any more.

Had a blast running south on 23 (Ozark answer to the dragon tail)out of Eureka Springs AR. down to Altus for some wine tastings, and then a stop at Alligator Ray's for some awsome Cajun cuisine.  But by the time i returned home, the pain limit had been reached.

It's a good thing that the V7 is an easy bike to stand up on.
Any suggestions on a remedy will be well received.

Just plan on stopping every 150-200 miles...stretch your legs...walk around a bit...smell the roses...have a coffee and piece of pie...

"Road Trips" should be FUN...and not an "Iron Butt" (IMHO)

I recently did 800+ miles (320 miles one way), on my 1998 Centauro GT with a "stock" seat...but it was over a few days and we stopped often as needed...

Common options are a beaded seat cover, sheepskin, Airhawk-style seat cover, and adding a gel insert or another comfort foam layer on top of the factory seat foam. I’ve used a beaded seat cover and sheepskin; both help my butt enough that I currently don’t feel a need to address the actual seat foam. Not sure I want an Airhawk, as I’ve read reviews that they can take away the feeling that you’re actually sitting on a seat.

If I just deal with the stock seat and take a break, the time it takes for the bum to return to 100% becomes exponential.

My '13 V7 Stone had the most uncomfortable seats (I had three different factory ones - original, low gel and Cafe') of any bike I've ever ridden. 2 hours max. If I had kept it, a Corbin or Sargent seat would have been necessary.

 FWIW,I have a goldwiing with a custom seat with backrest,and even on that after a few hours your butt will hurt some.There is no substitute for getting off the bike, and stretching, like others have said. Other than that, I recommend a sheepskin seat cover of good quality. I recommend Alaska leathers seat covers. Great products, that help the comfort quite a bit.

I put the +1 comfort seat off of the V7-850 on my V7iii Stone and it was night and day for me.  I didn't have to modify anything to make it fit either.

I own an Air Hawk.  I agree with Dirk.... to a degree.  If you are riding interstate or for long sections with gentle curves on state roads, the
Air Hawk is very nice.  If you get in the twisties and start riding aggressively, I found I lost my "oneness" with the bike.
I had a Sargent seat made for my DL 1000 VStrom 20 years ago and it is the best seat I have ever owned.  It had a basket weave
top surface that helped with heat dissipation and had firmer foam in the middle and softer on the edges.  I have never used beads but
have used a sheepskin. I just didn't like fiddling with the sheepskin but it does help dissipate heat.  Windshield air management and seat
comfort are so individualist, hard to give advise.

I think people vary widely.  I could spend 12 hours on my 2013 V7 with stock seat and it was fine. Others say that’s the worse seat ever. 

I really like a bead seat cover.  I just got a cheap one from a car place and cut it in half. 

The other huge change was to ditch the stock handlebars and replace with a Norman Hyde “M” bar.  That moves you from a sit up and beg position where you fight the wind, to a mildly leaned forward position where the wind keeps the weight off your wrists.

I also highly recommend reading the Master Yoda riding position tutorial.  That made an enormous difference to my long distance endurance.

But sometimes you just got to put your head down and get in some big miles to get to the good riding or home from it.

Does Jim from Ned's Cycle still work his magic on these newer bike seats?

When you have a bad seat, or it just doesn't fit you, "stretching the legs" has diminishing returns. The stops get longer and more frequent until it just doesn't work anymore.

Unfortunately, what looks good in the showroom and what feels good on the bum are often two different things.

In the end, the solution is unlikely to be cheap, but the improved relationship with the bike will be priceless.

 Been my experience that just like many other systems on a bike the seat also takes some time to “break in”. OEM seats on both of my V7’s are quite a bit better after a few years . Currently I’ve got a sheepskin that I move when changing rides . 300 + days are ok even with a hip replacement. At 100kg I’ve also found , as posted elsewhere that redial tires are a huge improvement . The OEM shocks were adequate for solo riding but lacking when camping gear is included . I’ve had a couple custom seats but found after 5 years or so they lost their luster . YRMV !

There are so many things that go into seat comfort it would take all day to type them.  I worked with several IBA competitors on seating and comfort when KoF was a going concern-now retired from that.  Anyway, at the very least, when these folks took some time off from riding, which they do, as training for an IBA is ALL consuming, at least for the riders I know-anyway, they would share that it takes time to get the "butt" in shape after some time away.

Corbin has some very different ideas on what a seat shape should be, but they do have a very good product in the cafe style seat for the V7.  Shape is correct and there is a bit of fore/art movement room available.
