I have about 4 of these.  A couple that aren't mentioned.  Kitchen mallet, all purpose rubber on one side & hard plastic on the other, brass hammer.  Add to the list.

In the case of a 14lb sledge hammer it will comprehensively move YOU if you miss what you're aiming for

There’s plenty of them in my regular toolbox, then some more in the kitchen. 

In the studio, I really like my 4lb estwing but my favorite for seriously cutting granite  is a 6lb sledge head on a short handle.  I’ve tried but cannot keep a short wooden handle on an 8lb head.  Without ever missing a hit, the handles simply shatter into splinters when you’re swinging hard… kinda cool but not on a customer’s stone.

Then there’s my pecan mallets that I turn for Metalshaping.  I think it’s the best domestic wood for such a mallet.
