In terms of riding, I'll take California any day over Floriduh.

Absolutely!  I stopped riding my bikes down there for work after a year break in 2020.

Just don’t park your bike near any city in California.  LOL!

With all the issues that California has (mostly political) I would have a hard time justifying any place else.  One just needs to get out of the Bay Area/LA area and there is a whole lot of open space with not too many people.  But back to the subject at hand, Very sorry to hear about your things getting stolen...That sucks...
T
Best riding weather hands down but to get out of the heavily congested metro areas in either city, it can take 2+ hours of freeway riding which is tiring and not fun.
That said, everything else is a Con. Lived there most of my life, now in Phoenix, again  for the time being.

For OP, I am truly sorry. I'd be devastated too, for sure. All I can say is, such a crime is hardly never random.
Meaning, there is a good chance someone who either lives nearby there or someone who knows someone that lives nearby and has scouts the area regularly, know when you are not around or in deep sleep, etc.
The fact that your van was stolen strengtens that possibility even further. Especially for something so irreplaceable like the van, you should have had lowjack and a kill switch at a minimum.
I'd have also had cameras covering the driveway.

Again, I am certain someone you know or seen around the neighborhood is linked to both crimes (either done it or knows who did).
If there are any businesses or neighbors with security cameras covering the nearby roads, talk to them to see if they could check their footage.
Of course, this is something that had to be done in a day or two after the incident but might be worth a shot.
Best of luck!

I agree with CA being a better motorcycle ride environment than FL.   :thumb: :thumb:
From the Deep Deep South out in left field.  There are no stupid questions.  There are however stupid people asking questions.  🤣, this includes me.  😉 Hawaii.
